We operate a small post office in Southern NSW - 3 hours by car from Melbourne. I am Australian, my wife is Ethiopian and we met in Dubai so we have a diverse background and very open to foreign guests after many years working in Europe, Asia, Middle East, Africa and USA.

The local industry is mainly farming and timber as well as tourism to the adjacent Barmah forest on the Murray/Edward Rivers which is noted for its fishing & bird watching opportunities.

Mathoura is small with the post office and adjoining residence located on the main street and within easy walking distance to all amenities - shops, pub, licenced club, etc.

The town has a bus connection to Deniliquin, Echuca and Melbourne and is situated between Deniliquin and Echuca. Echuca is based on the Murray River and is one of the most popular inland tourist destinations in Australia. It would be easy spend weekends in Melbourne or Echuca as it is so close and the post office is not open so we will be anxious to sp... more inside

Accommodation and meals &/or financial reward for general gardening/housework help. Guys preferred. Must be gay-friendly. My home is very comfortable, very quiet surrounded by forested reserves . I'm a very friendly guy. You will have total privacy including own bedroom and bathroom. Non-smokers only. 10 mins drive to town, so a car would be handy but happy to drive if I'm free. 15 mins walk to nearest beach...limited bus service to town but hitch-hiking is a common way of getting around. Mostly need help with garden maintenance. Not looking for 'party animals'...just travellers looking to experience the beauty of this region.

We focus on regenerating healthy ecosystems through cell grazing. Native animals including platypus, several species of wallabies, grey kangaroos, bettongs, possums, dingos and hundreds of bird species share the farm with us, our cows, sheep and chooks. We need help with cattle and sheep husbandry, fence repairs, weed control and other farm activities. We are not certified organic, but we use asfewchemicals as possible.

Our helpers stay in a beautiful cabin in the Orchard, with full access to the main house, delicious meals and free internet. (No mobile phone coverage) There's plenty of time for swimming, canoeing, fishing, bushwalking and lazing about, enjoying the farm.
