We have Charentaise stone barn conversion that is in the process of being renovated into a house. We are surrounded by vineyards & sunflowers & maize and near to Cognac and several other lively towns in Western France.
My husband is a carpenter and I am his Goffer!
We are looking for someone who is either skilled / semi-skilled in general building work , not afraid of a bit of hard work and who enjoys variety in his day- but we do believe in enjoying life too !!
Unfortunately we cannot offer pay, our budget is very tight BUT we can offer good food, local wine and free accommodation for a pair of helping hands several hours each day. Come and enjoy the Charente Maritime as much as we do - we look forward to meeting you.

Hi everyone, we live in a very rural quiet and beautiful part of France on the Charente/Dordogne boarder. We have 4 young children and run a small restaurant. Next to our building we have a gite where we used to live on first arriving in France. It is basic but comfortable and you would be welcome to live there in privacy as we live next door. The house and the immediate area, garden etc. needs a little TLC and as the restaurant keeps us very busy we would be looking for a little help with general household tasks and maintenance. We have a happy family environment and you would be welcome to join in. If you like the outdoors and nature, this is could be a great few weeks.

We are a couple of pensioners who retired to France 6 years ago. We have managed to turn two fields into a reasonable garden. Now we need help from mid November with the garden [planting, pruning, strimming etc ] cleaning, bit of painting, and generally helping out. Accommodation is a comfortable, double bedded room with en-suite facilities and a separate entrance - see photos below. Single or couple. 4 to 5 hours of work per weekday. Sorry no long stays - 2 or 3 weeks only. Our home is rural but not isolated and there are many interesting places to see nearby.

Modern bungalow on small development of eight, within walking distance of the small town, which has a weekly market. Three bedrooms, bath/shower, garden, garage. Help needed with
house painting (Interior) also some gardening. The bungalow is five years old, with electric radiators for heating purposes. There is a discoteque (but I have never been!) and shops, and is only 40km. from the city of Niort. This is the nearest train station with connections to the TGV, and helpers can be met there. Two famous medieval abbeys, and not far from La Rochelle - there is a bus between Fontenay la Comte and La Rochelle.

We are Tim and Lin originally from England. We have a large, modern, single story house with a swimming pool. The house is situated on the edge of a large village in the Deux Sevres (Dept 79) region of France. My wife has retired (formerly a teacher). I still work part-time (with computers).

We need help with gardening, painting and decorating and general DIY type stuff around the house.

We have double or single bedded rooms.

We are animal lovers and currently have 2 cats and 2 tortoises, we don't kill spiders and any mice our cats catch are taken from them and released!

We think our area is one of the most beautiful in France. Deux Sevres is the second sunniest region of France, averaging over 2000 hours of sunshine a year. There is lots to see and do.

We are not looking for help at the moment, thanks for looking;

Hi,
We live in rural Poitou Charente in a small hamlet. We have 3 boys Harry 11, Hayden 7 and George 6.
We are English but all of us speak French and the boys go to a French school. Life is rather busy as I split my time between the family and running the house and of course, the animals. Also, I run a small dog sitting and grooming business.

We have 7 horses and a foal that was born on 31 May,we ride and ride/drive the 2 ponies, We have 5 goats 3 females that i milk but am waiting for them to kid so not milking at the moment, lots of chickens so lots of beautiful fresh eggs and 3 pigs, as well as the dogs and cats.

We are renovating our house and raising the roof by 1m. We have completed one side but are going to start the other side this summer, any help with this would be fantastic, blockwork, roofing then when thats completed, stud walling, plumbing, plastereing etc inside.

Help with cutting woo... more inside

NOW: A very kind farmer has cut the worst of the weeds using his tractor. The place is looking so much better. Had a fun w/e celebrating Bastille day (Le quatorize) locally. No work today as it is Trisha's birthday.

We arrived on the 8th and the first job was to clear the huge weeds that have grown with all the sun and rain over the last two months. They are everywhere and the main offenders are 5 or 6 feet high! It will take us many days, I think. We could really do with some help :-)

We do have a singe bed and a non-tent place for a helper to stay. Do come and help us - Please.

LAST YEAR: we bought a pair of houses and barns in the Charente region of France and have started working towards making it our permanent home.
There are lots of things to do, including put in stairs, make rooms upstairs (previously grain stores), painting, repairing stone work and pointing, plumbing, electrics etc. The roof and walls are sound. There are also good sized gardens to plant an... more inside

Bridget and Neil living and working on 16 acres of land growing vegatables, trees and grapes. In between, a renovation project to the existing buildings and construction of a new timber framed barn. The barn will be fabricated using green Douglas Fir (Oregon Pine). All in the old Charentaise style. We also have a dog called Jack who is probably the best and nicest dog in the whole world!

The highlights of the year are:-
- the fire wook quota (Oak and Chestnut from own woods)
- the vegetable and fruit harvest along with preserving and freezing
- the making of Pineau (a fortified wine approx 17% alcohol)
- last but not least Bridget and I are both musicians playing traditional Celtic music, folk and whatever takes our fancy.
