Hi, we are Tom (48 from Belgium) and Blanche (49 dutch/spanish)We grew up in Belgium and Holland and live in Portugal for 22 and 14 years. Our children are: Michel (22) and Luka (10) We live in a small farm in a beautiful environment in the middle of Portugal close to the Serra da Estrela. We built our own tiny wooden house, cabin, tool shed and stables. We constructed a wooden platform with a tipi on top to house helpers. We are totally off the grid. Electricity comes from a small 2 panel solar system and we have our own well on top of the land so the water for all our use comes down with natural gravity.
We got 2 vegetable gardens and a big glasshouse, several (medicine) herb gardens and planted loads of fruit trees. We are planting a fruit forest garden and recently dug a huge pond for water storage. We made artificial wetlands to clean our greywater and are building a decent compost toilet now (while the one we use now is a very simple design). We also would like to built a hydro g... more inside

This is a smallholding eco quinta located on the banks of the Dão river in the Beira Alta region of central Portugal. A perfect place for people who want to be surrounded by an abundance of natural beauty, experience rural Portugal, and enjoy the comfort of a small and social community. The MdD is managed by a Dutch/American couple and a rotating group of long-time volunteers. We are located directly on the river Dão, partly within an ecological reserve. Over the course of 26 years this former miller's farm has been turned into an off-grid, partially self-sustaining homestead, rural tourism business and artist-in-residency program...and a place loved and visited by many.

In 2017–18 we will be expanding our food producing garden, work on upgrades in our building facilities and ongoing landscape/forestry management. For the spring and fall months we are looking for volunteers who can work in our vegetable garden, assist with general terrain and facilities maintenance, and rando... more inside

We are looking for a happy, work friendly and adaptable person/couple to help with our eco-tourism project in this beautiful area of rural portugal in a natural park near the Spanish border and the beautiful castle town of marvao. We have finished the building side , including restoring an old Mill , and now need to concentrate on making a great place for guests to enjoy. We have lovely botanical gardens and landscape. So, there's tidying of plant beds, helping with weeding, tidying the river bank, some painting and odd jobs such as helping to clean , make beds and some veggie cooking.. So, practical skills (with an artistic flair) and a good work ethic are essential. A nice, friendly (preferably veggie) person or couple who enjoy working proudly, keeping things tidy and a bit 'green-fingered' would be ideal. We have begun to welcome our first 'eco' tourists, so 'people skills' a must..
You must be keen to make an important contribution to our guests who enjoy the lovel... more inside

Cosy house with one guestroom and a small olive yard mixed with subtropical plants and trees. 3 dogs and a cat.
Short stays up to 2-3 weeks. Help needed with gardening, general maintenance and pet sitting; 4 m2 wall tiling, 10 m2 plastering with loam, fencing in the garden.
The garden has remained unattended for more than 5 years until last year, so there is a lot of work to do for the time being.
The house is situated in a small secluded village with only 15 inhabitants, in central Portugal. From the house various short walks can be made off road, also longer walks with description available. Turistic sites at only 1 hour by car.

For October 2017 I need 2 helpers for olive picking, I am expecting a huge yield this year.

Pet sitting needed for January 2018 (self catered), 1,5-2 weeks

Welcome to Rossaio: We are a small collective occupying an abandoned village on a ridge in Central Portugal. Our project - The Hive - has been based here since 2008, slowly restoring the buildings, working the land and creating forest gardens.

We have several ruins and many fertile terraces, and many trees including olive, chestnuts, cork oaks, pines, walnuts and lots of fruit trees. We are constantly adding different varieties to increase diversity.
Our aim is to bring this area back to a vibrant life, in tune with Permaculture design principles.

We are looking for anyone with permaculture, sustainability, construction or any land-based skills to join us, either for shorter stays of up to one or two months, or for longer stays of a year or more. People up for hard work but a lot of fun are very welcome.

In return for 4-5 hours work per day we can provide accommodation and food . Household tasks such as cooking, washing up and collecting firewood are shared, and there will... more inside
