***** We had a great time and made good experiences with Helpx and the helper that visited us. For this year we will not host any other helpers. See you in 2018. *****

Hello helpers

Help is needed in ecological house building, gardening and general housework. We are looking for motivated helpers from April to October, for a minimum two-week stay. We expect about half day of work (4 hours a day, weekend off) and help cleaning up after meals. Schedule may vary depending to the work needs and weather conditions.

We are a family of three, Isabel, Uli, and our son Isidro, age 6. We live in the district of Appenzell, Switzerland with a beautiful view of the Rhein Valley and the Austrian and Swiss mountains. We speak fluent German, Italian and French and some English, Czech and a bit of Spanish.

Our old farmhouse burned down in 2007; however, we started in 2013 with the construction of a new house, with a focus of using natural local materials such as wood, wool and clay. Since... more inside

We run a hostel in a small mountain village in the Swiss Alps. Myself (Merin) and my wife (Gemma) have been here in Gryon, Switzerland for more than 5 years, managing and growing our backpackers hostel. We first arrived for a six month climbing trip and couldn't leave.

Our hostel is in an authentic Swiss Chalet and has both private and dormitory rooms along with many common areas to accommodate our guests. Many people stay here because of our close proximity to all of the mountain activities. During the winter months there is skiing/snowboarding at a nearby resort and during the summer there is hiking, climbing and mountain biking. We love and participate in nearly all of the activities the Swiss Alps have to offer.

Our hostel is a pretty relaxed backpackers hostel. Our guests are usually a mix outdoor enthusiasts, individuals traveling Europe, small groups and families. It is a pretty chill place. We are not a party hostel and the mountains are more of a draw to our guests th... more inside

We are situated in the green back hills of the Wyna valley in southern Aargau. An ideal landscape for walking and mountainbiking.

We are not a professional farm but partially self-sufficient smallholders with one hectare of garden, orchard, pasture and forest. As new owners, we are in the process of establishing a large veggie garden including a permaculture section and restarting a chicken run. Our farm is situated outside the village, surrounded by our land. Nevertheless the next train station is only a 10 minutes walk away.

We offer to honest and motivated people the opportunity to stay with us for a while. We are a family with one teenager and 2 adult children which season-wise also live with us. We speak German, Italian, English and a little bit French. We don’t mind for smokers but only outside the house. We love good food and a glas of good wine but we can tolerate only moderate alcohol consumption. You’ll be invited to join us for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We... more inside

Hallo Helpers,

after a break I am ready to take one female helper in September 2017.

Please note that I do not run a hostel with helpers as free workers.

I see helpx as a cultural exchange. If you wish to stay with me I expect you to tell me about yourself, your studies/profession and why you would like to be a helper at my house. I am not only interested in what you expect to learn, but also in what you can offer. Life is a constant give and take as well as learning from each other. Reviews on helpx are essential. If you do not have any reviews on helpx please provide other references that I can possibly contact.

Length of stay: initially max 2 weeks.
Once we see how things move your stay can possibly be extended.

what you will do at my place:
you will help me with my work around my studio. I am a designer for fashion accessories.
I do not have a regualar daily schedule but will be able to give you an approximate idea of what kind of work chores might expect y... more inside

I (F) live near the capital of Switzerland, in a small house with a small garden. The location is beautiful: in a small village just out of Berne.

There is always something to do: lots of gardening (mostly weeding and mowing the "lawn"), cleaning... Sometimes hard work like trimming trees, and wood work.

I expect 4-5hrs work per day for 5 days a week and 2 off. Accomodation and all meals will be provided and some sightseeing on my days off IF the work is done.

I work shifts in the callcenter for roadside assistance. So you may be most of the time on your own, and also working on your own.

You will have your own bedroom (Wi-fi).
The kitchen and the bathroom have to be shared.
We may cook and eat together, even if not every day because of my shifts

The train station is only 10 min walk away and the airport is 10 min away (bicycle))
A public open air swimming pool (closed during the winter) is about 10 min (bicycle) from here.
Ski slopes are close and there you c... more inside
