We live in the Australian Outback, (THIS IS THE COUNTRY/no where near Sydney) 1200km from Sydney this is isolated to some but not to us. We do have access to power, internet access, television and regular access to villages and towns. Our 9 year old daughter & 5 yo son do School of the Air through Broken Hill - this is school via satellite at home on the property. We travel to other properties for school functions. This is a lot of fun and quite exciting for some, you also meet lots of new friends and experience different things. We also travel to town for school classroom interaction. We live on a large acreage; we run sheep, cattle and horses. We have a Grandparent, one permanent worker and seasonal workers on the property. My name's James and I run a beautiful little property 20 kms inland from Byron Bay - the closest town is Federal - a great community with a one stop shop that's just a minutes drive from my place.

I have a Masters in Natural Resource Management and apply that along with Permaculture design into restoring the rainforest and growing organic vegies for home use.

I work for a local not-for-profit group, overseeing work in restoring the natural environment.

WWOOFERS or any enthusiastic people who would like to trade work for accommodation, please drop me line. I have fantastic self-contained accommodation (check out the photos) and it's expected you work approx. 3-4 hours a day (or 7-8 hours every second day). As a single dad with two kids and a busy job, you will need to be comfortable entertaining and cooking for yourselves.

The type of work is variable: weeding, mulching, planting, propagating seeds in organic vegie patch / orchard, in the rainforest or around landscaped ... more inside

I also have an on-going programme of improving the pastures through removal of fallen timber, rocks and weeds. I need help with the pastures, the gardens and general household work. In particular, we have a project to establish a new vegetable garden and composting system.
