Our farm is situated 3 miles from Dufftown (the Malt Whisky Capital of The World)in the north east of Scotland we are currently converting a steading into holiday accommodation and are in the final stages of this. We need enthusiastic hard working people to help us finish off the project. Outdoor work weather permitting is picking and pointing stonework, laying decking and wall and fence building. Indoor work would be finishing plasterboarding and staining woodwork and painting ect. We can provide food and accommodation in exchange for this. Comfortable accommodation would be in one room in the steading. We would provide lifts to and from Dufftown where there is a bus service to Elgin. We could maybe find you a bike if you like cycling.
We are fairly easy going and good to get on with. We have 2 daughters who are home schooled and 2 Labradors. Ideally looking for someone for 2 weeks at a time but if we get on well it could be longer...a lot longer..as there is always plenty to do....

*********** Looking for carpentry, building and forestry helpers in Scotland for a week in 2016 ************

Hello,

We are looking for 1 or 2 physically strong people to help thin-out our 14 acre area of woodland in Scotland.

We’d also like to build a storage hut for the woods. The woods are about a 40 minute drive from our home but a hut could be built in stages back at our house in Aberfeldy and taken up ‘flat pack’ style so if you have experience in carpentry and building we’d love to hear from you. We have made a similar hut before so we can work with you and show you how it's done if it's not something you are familiar with.

We’d really appreciate it if you have a spare week to help with the heavy lifting and carrying - experience with using a chainsaw would be a great bonus too if you have it.

When we are not up at the forest, the tasks available at our house would be general maintenance outside: painting, putting up fences, log splitting and stacking, grass... more inside

Small friendly organic market garden in west of Scotland with herd of milking goats, about ten miles from Glasgow city centre. We set up the farm 25 years ago to provide young people with training in natural goat-keeping and all aspects of organic growing, such as permaculture. biodynamic methods and other innovative and time-saving methods.

We are looking for volunteers to join us for long or short stays (minimum three weeks) who want to know more about goats, growing food and survival methods such as saving seed. In return for about six hours work a day you will enjoy healthy organic food and stay in a heated caravan.

The work can sometimes be hard but we have a lot of fun!

Sadly these days, since we had some crazy folk here in the past, we have found that we have to ask people wanting to come and live with us for a reference, and to let us have the name, occupation,(farmer, other host, previous boss, lecturer or teacher) and telephone number of the referee. We have had ... more inside

We are a small holding on the Southern slopes of the Lammermuir hills looking out over the Tweed valley towards the Cheviot hills. This is a very peaceful rural location. We are renovating an old farm cottage using green oak framing and traditional stone mason skills. Anyone with these skills or enthusiasm to learn and good attention to detail will be most welcome. There will be additional opportunities to use or develop skills in timber frame building and welding. We keep a small flock of geese and assistance with these and general household tasks is also on the agenda. Simon is a forest manager and part-time saw miller so there will be opportunities to use or develop skills in these fields too. We stay in a mobile home with wood burner and compost loo. We also have a wood fuelled hot water boiler to provide baths/showers. We usually prepare and eat meals communally. Sleeping accommodation for visitors is in a separate touring caravan. We have no children but a dog who thinks s... more inside

It's coming up for that time of year again when the garden needs an autumn tidy up, the last of the fruit and veg picked, beds prepared for the winter and polytunnels tidied up. The autumn fruit picked and turned into jam along with some strimming, watering & weeding, composting, tidying & weeding. If you have any carpentry or joinery skills we have a few projects you may want to help us with - repairs to storm damaged polytunnel doors, building some planters, etc. If the weather is too wet or windy we will head indoors to do some painting, household chores and making jams, cleaning windows, etc.

Our place suits HelpXers that are hands-on, independent and practical and most importantly interested, love animals...chickens and dogs.... and don't mind getting your hands dirty...work is laid back and the radio is always on. We're not a farm...just a regular house with a very large allotment style fruit and veg garden where we grow our own fruit and veg.

We're Amanda and Stev... more inside

Our stables takes its name from the nearby site of special interest also situated in the tranquility of Glen Finart and is also within walking distance of Ardentinny beach on the shores of Loch Long. There are a couple of hotels in the village but no shops. The village is served by a regular bus service to the nearest town of Dunoon. This area of Argyll has a rich history and is home to Benmore Botanical Gardens. There are many forest tracks offering the walker or cyclist many beautiful views.

We are a 4th generation family farm based at the foot of the Pentland hills. We are predominantly a pasture farm (sheep, beef cattle and pigs) and also have a certain amount of woodland. We rent out a number of our farm cottages as another arm of our business. Currently we are looking for help on the farm and in the garden to assist us with a diverse range of jobs. Those jobs range from grass cutting, hedge trimming, weed wacking, woodland management, fencing care, animal husbandry and all sorts of other general maintenance.

We are providing self-contained heated accommodation with two bedrooms, a kitchen and utility room, living room/studio and bathroom. We will be organising meals on a case by case basis. We as a family are excited to share several meals a week with our guests but we also respect personal space so provisions for food or a weekly organic food box (csa) can also be arranged.

We expect our guests experience to be a rich exchange of knowledge. We consider ours... more inside

This is a lovely family home situated in the stunning west coast of Scotland. Ben Nevis is 40 minutes away and Glencoe 30 minutes. My husband and I moved here 2 years ago and have 3 children aged 1, 2 and 4. The farm is a hill sheep farm with some cattle but is tenanted, however the surrounding grounds need a lot of TLC (tender loving care). We are in a rural part of the world, in fact Argyll is commonly know as the outdoor capital of the UK. We have amazing mounteneering and skiing on our door step. We have a large twin bedroom with two armchairs, a little box room next to it and a bathroom shared with our little terrors next to that. The Internet is good. Ideally we would like you to do 5 hours a day Monday to Friday. Mostly manual outdoor work. Clearing sheds, strimming, log splitting and gardening. We can insure you on our car, a driver is a must! The nearest shop is 3 miles away. We have lovely cafes and pubs with in a mile or two.
