HELPX ADVERT

Come share the experience of living and working on dairy farms in the beautiful south island countryside. We are just a short drive to the stunningly beautiful Lake Rotoroa in Nelson Lakes National Park, and about 25 minutes from Murchison township. Murchison is known for its white water rafting and kayaking (grade 2-4), the natural flames experience, deer hunting and trout fishing. There are also lots of bushwalks around the region, and you may even find some Lord of the Rings scenery. Our family’s farms are surrounded by snow capped mountains and native bush. We are remote so water comes from an underground stream. In summer you can pick fresh fruit from the orchards, make preserves and swim in the rivers. In winter days are spent feeding the livestock and doing maintenance such as fencing. Come spring the cows are calving and there are lots of cute little wet noses to feed.

For 4-6 hours work a day we are offering accommodation and food. Depending on your ski... more inside

Hi
ARE YOU IN NELSON NOW? ARE YOU FIT AND FRIENDLY?

We are a family with 4 children, 6 chickens, a dog, 2 ponies and a horse! We live in a lovely town called Motueka near the Abel tasman national park. There are lots of outdoor activities in our area. We would love to host someone that is fun, easy going and able to fit in with a busy family. We have a room with bathroom separate from the house so you would have some privacy and a bit of quiet space! We are friednly and hardworking.
What is expected?
About 6 hours of help each day with breaks during the day
We are hard working and get jobs done so you will need to be willing to get stuck in to help us too. We will provide homecooked meals and ensure your tummy is full and a cold beer at night after a hard days work.

If you think this is for you then get in touch.

This weeks jobs are to stack hay from a paddock, move some gravel and do some maintenance jobs. Are you able to help with any of this?

This was a five acre conventional kiwifruit orchard which is being gradually transformed into a biodiverse organic food forest and permaculture paradise. We're planting a forest garden, home orchard and loads of medicinal herbs - on a shoestring budget! We need strong, fit, enthusiastic help with planting, weeding and maintaining fruit trees and herbs, repairing irrigation, removing vines, fencing, firewood chopping, building, decorating, and various other jobs, for 5 hours per day, 6 days per week. We're especially looking for people with plumbing, electrical, and carpentry skills. We can offer shared yurt or tent accommodation, healthy, fresh, simple food, and valuable learning in a lovely (and mostly sunny) location near Motueka. We have 3 alpacas, 5 ducks, 17 hens, 3 sheep, 2 beehives, 1 horse, 1 dog and a cat. You must like animals, be willing and able to work alone with minimal supervision when necessary, and have some prior experience of at least some of these tasks. Minimum... more inside

Thanks for your interest but we regret we do not have any HelpX placements here right now until after the beginning of April 2017.

The weather in the Tasman Bay is known to be sunny and warm; we have a wonderful location, overlooking the mountains to the west and the sea to the north, the land is surrounded by olive trees, and farms. The Abel Tasman National Park Track and the Heaphy Track are both easily accessible for those who wish to do some hiking during their stay.

David and Gill have both travelled widely in the past, but have lived here for over 25 years. They both work part time, David works in various roles from marketing, landscaping or driving plus many voluntary hours for community projects from bike trails, footpaths and coastal planting projects. Gill now works as a part time midwife in the local community. Their children have all grown up and left home and they have plenty of space for visitors in their 5 bedroom home.

On the property we have 2 self containe... more inside

The property is a delightful flat organic orchard with spacious rows of mandarin trees.

The current work on offer is pruning mandarin trees - which is easy to learn and fun in a group.

The large house has plenty of double bedrooms, large open plan kitchen dining lounge with a fireplace.

A garage for completing projects on wet days.

Living on site with other helpers

The wetland is being planted out with native trees and we are creating a native plant nursery. Paterangi is close to the sea, national parks, wineries, farmers markets, the national cycle track, the restaurants and cafes of coastal Mapua and much more.Languages spoken: French and Mandarin (Chinese). Minimum stay 1 week.
