Home renovation - assistants needed

We are in the process of renovating a former church hall in a small village at the edge of the Dumfries and Galloway National Park.

We are looking for people to come and lend a hand with building work in exchange for a place to stay and food.

We live in a quiet village, shops and bus routes into Ayr and Glasgow. We also live with our small dog and often go walking, camping and take our little canoe out on the weekends, for which you will be more than welcome. Katey is also a keen forager and happy to share knowledge of native plants and edible foods.

Working day is usually 9.30 am - 5pm but will change depending on the nature of work being carried out. All levels of skills wanted from painting work to plastering and paining. You will be working with Nick who has lots of experience and can show you what to do.
It's dirty work but worth it for the great location.
Short and long stays welcome.

I am a teacher of English as a foreign language taking some time off to do some more creative things. One of which is to renovate our family's flat in Edinburgh. I have one dog, who is a beautifully behaved Beagle cross Bulgarian street dog. Also in the country my family has sheep, ponies and other animals. There may be a possibility of work there too, in the Scottish Borders, helping with lambing for example.
I am friendly, active and outgoing, I like going out to listen to live music. I have two grown up daughters and an extensive family around the world. I speak fluent Italian and am learning Spanish.
The flat is in the middle of a beautiful part of the city centre with a friendly local community. It is near to the Meadows, a large area of tree lined avenues and open grass fields. The flat is in need of some repairs needing carpentry skills, plasterwork, wallpapering and the painting of walls, ceilings and woodwork. The painting is already underway. There is also a shared garde... more inside

Hello, my husband and I live 3hrs North of Edinburgh, and 20min North of Inverness (Loch Ness) and have two children, the oldest child born July 2010 and the youngest child born Feb 2012. We are a very relaxed household and live on a family run farm.
We are looking for help with childcare, changeover of a 2bed Holiday Let and organic gardening in return for meals and accomodation. We can offer a very comfortable room with a super-king bed, TV/DVD, wireless internet and an en-suite bathroom.
We hope to find help from April 2016 - Sep 2016, for 2 month up to a year stay.
My husband is a manager on the farm and is very hands on with every aspect. As a family we are very keen on conservation and enjoy planting trees and creating native habitats. My interests include cooking, Contemporary Art, plants, practicing yoga and enjoying long walks daily. We generally live a simple life and enjoy growing vegetables in our polytunnel & garden.
We over look the Cromarty Firth and have beaut... more inside

We live in a beautiful 15th Century Tower house. It has 5 floors, with a room on each floor, 76 stairs and a dungeon! We heat the tower with geo-thermal heating and have both photo-voltaic solar panels and hot water panels. We have a woodland, polytunnel, chickens, ducks and 2 dogs. We have 4 children with one still living at home at the local high school. We are keen to create a situation where we can share our home and the beautiful Galloway countryside and at the same time have much needed help in our quite extensive garden. We have various sleeping arrangements. We have just completed building a garden room, which can sleep two. We also have a teepee tent which is lovely to sleep in and a room on the 2nd floor with a double bed. The shower/bath is in a shared room, but there is a toilet on the ground floor for everyone's use. The jobs that we will be looking to have help will be varied! We are constantly dealing with brambles that easily take over our woodland. I am trying to crea... more inside

I am a single mum of one three year old, I have a flock of fifty sheep,I would ideally like someone to come and stay for three weeks from the end of March to help with lambing and/or childcare. Extra work on a beef farm would be available if wanted but not essential. Work on the beef farm is available at all times of the year, but obviously the type of jobs available will depend on the time of year. Accomodation and meals will be provided. Driving licence essential and you must be good with children. Plenty of time off during the day will be given to visit the picturesque Orkney islands and it's wonderful archaeology.

Hello, we are Debbie and Brian, a couple in our 40/50s living on a croft (smallholding) on the North West coast of Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides with our 2 sons. We are just at the start of our journey to turn 8 acres of rough grazing land into a productive self sufficient croft, so there is a lot of path laying, tree planting, gardening etc as well as caring for our ever growing livestock numbers.

We are looking for people to help us for several hours each day and generally join in with household life, in return for a bedroom, all meals and living as part of the family. We will try to pick people who we think will really fit in with us and get on well with the whole family and our animals.
We are in a remote and rural location, we are part of a crofting township which is reasonably well provided for, there are a couple of shops, launderette, pub, social club, restaurants and sports centre all within 2 miles of our house. The nearest town is Stornoway and there is a bus... more inside

Our volunteers can join us anytime from April to September and preferably stay at least one month, but longer may be possible. We ask for approx 20 hours work a week spread over 4 days. This work will involve weekends and some evenings and above all you need to be flexible as every day is different! You would have free days each week to explore our beautiful surroundings and pursue your own interests. Outdoor activity opportunities are quite wonderful in this part of the highlands and wildlife is on our doorstep, as is the stunning landscape of the Cairngorm Mountains. In return, you will be provided with a bed in a small staff room, your own locker, breakf... more inside
