Richard Glyn Foundation - Gaunt's House

Set in acres of beautiful land with a Georgian/ Edwardian period house built in the 18th Century by Sir Richard Glyn. The Foundation (a charity) was set up to offer opportunities for profound learning and seeks to instil values of community, honesty and openness.

We host national and international groups that facilitate learning in a range of personal and spiritual development subjects such as yoga, meditation, gongs/drumming, Zen meditation.

Based on a small country estate, we have a Victorian walled garden, which is being developed over time into an oasis of food production and a wildlife haven. We have inherited a much neglected garden and a lot of the work this year is in restoration, as well as trying to build new areas and grow new things in a more natural, sustainable and friendly manner.

We consider this to be a long term and exciting project. We have spent much of the time improving the soil and growing using natural pr... more inside

The next opportunity is from 25th February 2018 for 3 weeks to 12 months or more.

IMMEDIATE & ANYTIME: For foreign helpers already in the UK you would be welcome to join us for a day working in the garden or at the farm. A good chance to practice your English alongside native speakers. We are 1 hour by train from London, 10 minutes from Brighton, and you can choose any day that you are free to join us.

We have been growing Japanese and English vegetables since spring 2005, starting with just half an acre of land. In 2018 we will continue our drive for self-sufficiency on our 60 acre site at a beautiful and very peaceful location near Cooksbridge, with many wild birds and wild animals for company!. We use hand tools, including scythes, but also tractor-pulled machinery for seed bed preparation. No artificial fertilisers and no pesticides or herbicides are used - our methods seek to allow nature to do as much of our work as possible using farmscaping for beneficial insects and ... more inside

We are a family with a busy life with 4 children (ages from 10 - 17) dogs, cats & chickens! We live in a large house in a very rural area in a beautiful setting with lots of walking on the doorstep! (We are also a 10 minute car ride (will give lift) to a train that will take you to the busy town of Tunbridge Wells in 15 minutes, or London in just over an hour).

We are looking for an enthusiastic person who enjoys the countryside & who is happy to help me tackle cleaning our large, untidy house!

(If you are a couple, there is always lots of work to be done outside - log chopping/stacking, digging over a large overgrown veggie garden etc etc!)

Our helper(s) would have to be flexible, enthusiastic and able to start as soon as possible for a period of 2-4 weeks. Am flexible with dates.

In exchange for 5 hours work each per day, we will offer a large private double room and bathroom (separate from the main house),home cooked food, normal wifi use and being part of our busy ... more inside

Our farm has heated accommodation and warm hospitality for the right person who will need to be enthusiastic and dedicated when it comes to our precious livestock.

This is a lovely old fashioned farm set in the very heart of the beautiful Devon countryside. The location and landscape is unspoilt and offers easy access to the wilds of Dartmoor.

Ben and his wife Larry and Benís Mother Tessa along with our volunteers and students work together to maintain and develop the land, livestock and a sustainable way of life.

We enjoy life on our 400 year old traditional Devon Farm and manage over 100 acres consisting of culm grassland, hay meadow, ponds and woodlands (43 acres), all worked by our shire horses. Our Woodlands provide a wonderful opportunity for preserving the time-honoured skills associated with traditional woodland management such as coppicing, charcoal burning and horse logging.

**We are looking for help from March onwards!Long-term stays and couples welcome!**

We are a busy, free-hold pub with brewery in a small village beside the coast in North Devon. We serve real ales, home-made food, and run regular music nights, games night and discussion groups. We are busy with holiday-makers and residents alike, and the pub is an important part of the community here.
Depending on the length of stay, volunteers might find themselves working in the garden with general maintenance and tending to our raised beds; assisting in the kitchen; helping service run smoothly during lunchtime and evening sessions; or possibly working behind the bar (depending on experience). The nature and duration of the work varies depending on how busy we are; generally we ask for 4-6 hours per day, and sometimes shifts are split between lunch and evening. We are happy to provide days off where possible, but please be aware that weekends are our busy times.
Meals are generally provided... more inside

We are based in a Grade II* Romantic Gothic mansion located just south of the English Lake District. It is situated in 70 acres of woodland and gardens on the shores of Morecambe Bay. It provides a quiet and reflective environment for a meaningful break.

The help required is varied and might include cooking, helping in the garden, household, doing office tasks, decorating etc. We also have various building projects at present that you could get involved in. We are always interested to hear about any specific skills you may be able to offer. Although the work is not always strenuous you will need to be reasonably fit and active to come on a volunteering visit.
