We are a family of four (mom, 41, translator; dad, 43, theatrical set designer and doing this and that in the field of culture; boy, 12, into robotics, football, hockey, floorball, mobile and PS gaming; girl, 11, into all kinds of animals, especially horses, cooking, reading, music) who live in a big old house that we are slowly renovating.

We need extra pairs hands for all sorts of jobs around the house and garden depending on the time of year and whatever projects we have going on: scraping, painting, cleaning, wall-papering, basic carpentry, yardwork, gardening, basic forestry, chopping wood, cutting grass, picking berries, cherries & apples etc etc. There might be some light work with our ten or so chicken as well. In the summer work will usually mostly be outside.

We also have a few beehives, and helpers are welcome to help with their care if they so wish, but that is not required. ;)

Our helpers normally stay for one to three weeks, and unfortunately long-term stays ... more inside

We are a family of three, Pia, Tapsa and daughter Tindra 11. We work hard and live a modest life in an old house in a beautiful countryside.
Tapsa is having his carpentry in the yard in a separate building. I have a restaurant in Urjala city which is located 6 km from our house, there you find shops, post and bank.

We have 3 dogs, 4 cats, 2 horses, 1 pony, few chickens, ducks, 2 bunnies and a rooster.

We are surrounded with beautiful nature, with different wild animals, like deer. There's also great paths for hiking or walks and run. You can borrow our old fashioned bikes for nice tours.

Distance to bigger town like Tampere, is 60 km.
Turku 100 km. Helsinki 180 km.

We hope for help with different tasks, mainly keeping company for Tindra, feeding animals and cleaning stable, gardening (wintertime snow shoveling), wood chopping and -carrying, cleaning the house, painting, fixing and so on. There is a lot of work on our yard. You will have meals and other treats with the ... more inside

We are Marja (finnish sign language interpreter, homemom, from Finland) and Mick (carpenter, from Ireland) and we have two small kids Leo (soon 3 years) and Luna (9 months old). We live in the countryside in North Karelia 20 km from Joensuu center.

Our project is to build a small straw bale round house to be our home. We have decided to settle down in Finland and after a few years of thinking we decided to build our own home instead of buying an old house. After that decision was made we bought 5 hectares of land in December 2016. We bought it very close (500m) from where we live now and also close to an organic farm Pikkunuppu where Marja has grown up.

We have now cleared the road to the house, applied for building permission and gotten it and had the trees cut to boards for the house. After we got the building permission we cleared the building plot from trees and we did a natural stone foundation. Now (august, september, october) is the time to build a timber floor and h... more inside

Our business is a small home-based husky farm. Our dogs are friendly
with a variety of personalities.

We constantly train dogs for the winter. The training consists of
running dog teams with cart or ATV mostly every day in the warmer
months. In preparation for winter, we build more kennels for the dogs
and chop firewood.

Volunteers share a bedroom and share the rest of the house with the
host. Internet access is available in the evenings. Volunteers join in
kitchen and housework. Hours are divided through the day, and it's
physically hard, but very rewarding.

During winter 2017-2018 we will work at two different places. At home
in Suomussalmi, and in Kuusamo, where we will be organizing husky
safaris.

In the middle of November I will move to Kuusamo with most of the
dogs, and another guide comes to Suomussalmi.

In Suomussalmi our farm is located in a remote place in the forest
surrounded by swamps. There are good options for hiking, spending time
in nature... more inside

We run an internship program for people interested in working with huskies in a semi-professional capacity. In other words, we don't just take people as volunteers and expect them to poop. Rather, we have a systematic training system in place which is an extension of the system in place for paying clients who want to participate in the husky lifestyle for short periods of time.

Interns learn about and participate in the daily and weekly tasks that need to be completed on the farm. The first week is a bit of a baptism of fire guided by a daily mentor in which there is complete immersion into every aspect of life here.

The degree to which people can participate in the range of roles available on the farm depends on the length of their stay, their expertise coming in, and the level of interest in the various roles.

Duties change with the seasons from one-on-one dog training and construction / maintenance work in the summer, to dog-conditioning and safari preparation work in... more inside

LOOKING FOR HELP NOW (STARTING AS OF AUGUST 6)

I have a small farm in a beautiful location right next to a lake in Central Finland. When I was a child, we had dairy cows, then beef cattle. When the animals had to go, we continued growing oats and barley for many years. When my dad died, I rented out most of the fields but kept three hectares to myself so I could still be a farmer of some sort. I planted Phacelia, which is a good nectar plant, and got some honey bees. Then I went to a beekeeping school and got my beekeeper’s diploma. Currently I have about ten beehives.

Accordingly, you’ll have to feel more or less comfortable with thousands of bees buzzing around your head if you decide this is your thing. But not to worry, I will provide you with a full bee suit and gloves. If you want to learn beekeeping, I can teach you.

The work depends very much on weather. There are no fixed working hours or days off. When something needs to get done with the bees, it gets done, be i... more inside
