We're looking for one or two people to look after our land while we go to Boom festival. Mostly watering, not too much work. You would need to arrive by Aug 9th so we can show you what needs doing, we will leave on the 10th. We'll be back on the 18th, it would be great if you can stay until we get back, but even if you can only stay half the time we are away it would still be useful.

We purchased this property at the end of 2012 and it is still a work in progress, the houses were ruins which are being restored so the facilities are still very basic - temporary kitchen, compost toilet, no shower - water in stream to wash in. There is a spring for drinking water.

We're planting a forest garden.

See our website for some photos of the land and the area. Most of the land is quite wild, we are letting the native oak forest return. There is lots of wildlife here, it changes throughout the year, now in summer we have lizards and geckos, plus birds (although the best time for birds ... more inside

My name is Tim and I am British and I am married to Nic who is half Scottish and half Australian. We have had numerous travel experiences which we hope to continue and be able to share with others.

We have both spent many years working overseas from inside the Arctic Circle (in winter) to Northern Kenya, and many countries in between. Our philosophy is simply "life is too short". We are resilient, resourceful and are told we are great company. We have been happily married for the last 9 years.

We also have a black Labrador and a cat.

We are qualified and well practised first aiders!

We are looking for a couple with interest in building, gardening and cooking to come help from March 2016 onwards.

The main aim is to create fun, practical and hard-wearing furniture for the co-working studio, common kitchen and dormitory.

We will also be renovating the roof on the outside shower, building a tool shed + woodstore in the carpark and creating a sun shade for the water tanks - working with: wood, stone, ceramic tiles and creativity :)

We'll start working again in March 2016 with the aim to have everything complete by June 2016.

We plan to host a few small groups over the summer - at which point we'll also need a volunteer to help with day to day tasks such as cooking, gardening and cleaning.

A little history...

Dear travelers,I'm back In my home here after 5 years away. The place is wonderful and there are plenty of little jobs and gardening to potter away at, lots of small and big projects. One priority is, The Windows, which need some upkeep to keep them good for some more winters to come....Lots of nice simple wholesome food and time at the river to chill and wonderful people in the area and we often dine together. Spare room available, plenty of room to pitch a tent if preferred.
Hoping to meet positive, proactive, self motivated people, with a great sense of humour, who enjoy team work, and share a good experience and the beauty of the area.
I'm in the process f putting in a watering system and want to create a living pool, its a big learning curve for me to see how it is done.

Hello dear HelpXer! My Name is Uta and I already live here for eleven years. The house is located on the edge of the village of Almargens, 2km north of São Brás de Alportel. It lies idyllically within the hilly surroundings of the Serra region, the wild back lands of the Algarve. Surrounded by lowly gardens with orange- and lemon trees one always finds peace and tranquility. I have got two dogs, chickens and some birds.
The HelpXer has its own Apartment including bathroom and a little kitchen! Food would be according to the arrangements.
The working time will be something around 4 hours a day and would consist in walking and feeding the dogs, watering the garden, helping with the holiday guests, maintaining house and pool, painting walls ore furniture and so on... won´t be heavy work.
In your free time you can surely do whatever you want and we can discuss the usage of a car. Right next to the house there are lots of beautiful hiking- and biking trails. If you are interested in p... more inside

This is an off-grid permaculture project of 2.5ha in the foothills of the Serra do Açor near the village of Benfeita. It's an evolving education and demonstration site for many aspects of sustainable living with the emphasis on the 'evolving' right now. The land is steeply terraced with vegetable gardens, fruit trees and vines, some olives, chestnut woodland, a stream, ponds and ancient stone-built waterways, a developing biodome with aquaponics system, a coniferous plantation under conversion to deciduous woodland, a growing food forest, and several buildings being constructed and renovated using natural materials and techniques.

I'm also working with the local council (concelho) on the design and implementation of vermicomposting sanitation systems based on the one I built here. This is open source technology and has great potential in this mountainous region for returning the waterways to pristine purity. Anyone interested in sustainable sanitation is welcome to come and study... more inside

1 hectare riverside quinta, 3km to town with bus and rail stations.

I have 2 dogs, a cat, chickens and a goose, and mostly need help maintaining the land - weeding and watering, and sometimes making improvements to infrastructure.

Also sometimes to look after the garden and animals when I am away.

There is a caravan with double bed for you to stay in, and there is a shower room for your use.

If you want to bring a campervan there is space, also for tents.

You can swim in the river and there is lots to explore in the area.

I prefer volunteers to stay just for a few days / weekend.
