If you want to visit the home in Scotland, we need help in April with tree removals, shrub cut-backs and outdoor gardening, and refurbishment of a potting shed which we'd like to put a second story to. In Florida, we need help with building a backyard common area for a fire pit in May. please only respond right now for the April timeframe in Scotland or the May timeframe in Florida. You will have your own room in both places. There are full kitchens for cooking. Shared bathroom in Scotland, private bath in Florida.

This is a 500 year old Scottish Castle, located in the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. We are situated in the forest 2 miles from the nearest village of Aberfoyle, a small but busy tourist village described as the gateway to the Trossachs. The Castle and grounds were uninhabited for about 10 years, until 4 years ago when we purchased the castle and estate, with the intention of running a guest house and function venue from the Castle. We have been working hard for the last 3 years with HelpX volunteers to restore the garden and renovate the castle, and presently to run our hospitality business. The major rennovation is now complete and the business is open to guests staying for bed and breakfast and special events. Helpexers get involved with the day to day running of the business (breakfast service, bedroom cleaning, wedding operations) as well as gardening, maintenance and log splitting.

The Veggie Patch is a tiny business trying to grow fresh herbs, fruit and vegetables without the use of chemicals in a 2 acre field near Strachur on Loch Fyne.
Initially we need a handyperson to fix up the caravan and stay in it for free. It is warm and dry has low pressure running water and electricity. We would pay for materials and supply tools.
There are 24 chickens & 11 call ducks, a huge polytunnel, a fruit cage, coppice, orchard, veggie patches and ponds. All surrounded by wildlife friendly/edible hedging and or fedging. There are worm farms, various compost heaps, a comfrey patch and a liquid feed station.
Kate & Russell Glasgow are interested in offering work experience helping us in the early days of our attempts to start a market garden. We are influenced by nature, organics, permaculture and no-dig.
We offer a taste of life in the countryside and methods of gardening without the use of chemicals, there are lots of useful reference books here. We would provide food a... more inside

Four year old wooden Scandinavian style cottage set in a woodland on the edge of a small village in the Scottish Borders. We are 9 miles from the nearest town, Hawick. We have three/four bedrooms two of which are available for letting. Our small woodland has suffered a lot of damage in the winter storms and we need help clearing it. Not very hard labour. We aim to grow as much of our own vegetables and salad as we can. We have have free range chickens for our eggs. Our two Labrador dogs are very friendly as are our two cats. We also have two horses. We would expect a helper to be able to help outside and, when we are busy, inside in the B&B as well. Five hours work each day and we will supply and cook meals to be eaten with us. Free wifi.We can arrange lifts to Hawick for onward travel to Edinburgh or to Jedburgh for travel to Newcastle and the south. We are non smokers and the house is totally non smoking.

we are a working protest site located beside HM Naval Base Clyde -- home to Britain´s nuclear weapons system -- the camp has been a base of operations for anti-nuclear campaigners since 1982 making it the worlds oldest surviving peace camp.

we are currently looking for mature, enthusiastic people for longer term stay. the main job at present is collecting firewood, but there is plenty of other things to be doing, eg, campaigning, direct actions, helping out with daily chores and general upkeep of site.

you will be accomodated in cozy caravans, all of wich have woodburners.

there are many things to do with free time too. for example, lovely forrest walks, watersports, mountain climbing and generally good conversations. ps, bring your musical instruments.

Stays of longer than 2 weeks are preferred and encouraged.

Hope to see you soon, love from

FPC

This is a lovely Georgian property with lots of character and lovely views on the hills above the Ayrshire coast. We ran it as a B&B for 10 years and now live at a more leisurely pace. We would like some help with the large garden and general maintenance around the property. We try to be as eco as possible and have biomass heating, our own spring water and live as sustainably as we can.

This is a yoga and therapy retreat. It is based in a large old Victorian property with gardens, which we have taken over from a group of Christian missionaries. Situated just over an hour from Glasgow we enjoy magnificent views over the Clyde estuary. We are looking for help to get some organic food production going, sort out a small wood and re-stock flower beds. We also need help with decoration in the main house and food preparation. 4-5 hours a day of work in return for food and accommodation would be great. We can also offer access to regular yoga and meditation sessions.
