Dear friend :)

We are currently not were we thought we would be on the project so are not taking any kind help at the moment, but please feel free to drop us a line and when we are back up to hosting we shall be in touch. Cheers to you!

----

Having been volunteers on many projects around the world for these nomadic 12 years, we hope to understand and most of all appreciate the huge help, energy and knowledge you can bring to a project. For this reason the aim here is to treat you with home cooked meals, comfortable accommodation and plenty of time off to enjoy the amazing local beaches, with working hours greatly timed to not clash when the waves are best!

The project is new, yet the idea has been fermenting a while now, Now being the time to create reality! We have about an acre of land heading into a forest, a short cycle from some of the most stunning surf beaches in Europe.

The idea is simple, to have a space for artists, to come, create and be..

We ask that volunteers help us for up to six hours a day, five days a week during the Spring and Summer months with Saturdays and Sundays off. During the months when the days are shorter only five hours a day is usually possible. In return we will provide food and accommodation as well as the opportunity to experience the tranquility of the Quinta and the area around Serra da Estrela the highest mountain in Portugal. Working times can be flexible and are usually determined by weather and what needs to be done. When you arrive let us know your preferences and what you wish to learn and we will take these into consideration when planning work.
Work includes gardening, pruning, weeding, compost turning, strimming, green compost collection, watering, planting, cleaning ponds, wood chopping and stacking, pine cone collecting and bramble clearing to name a few. Depending on the season you may find yourself preparing ground, planting, harvesting and then there are our 80 olive trees to t... more inside

Hi,
I (Mieke) just bought and am about to move to a small, rural campsite in the inland of Portugal, I'm belgian and already living almost 20 years in Portugal (and can not imagine to live anywere else).
Our family consists of myself, my two sons (Matte of 18 years and Seth who's 12,5 years), 3 nice and very friendly dogs (Scooby, Baloe and Zara), 3 cats (Snowball, Cookie and Rocky) and 4 guinea pigs (Nana, Lara, Layla and Alex).
Volunteers are part of the family, so we do most of the things together; as eating, cooking, working, but also shopping, doing litlle trips or other events that may occur.
The campsite already exists 15 years, it's not that it needs building or renovating, but there is always maintenance that needs to be done like gardeng, maintenance of the pool, cleaning of the campingsite, painting,... to prepare for the upcoming season.
This part of Portugal is a very beautifull area dominated by the Serra da Estrela, the highest mountain range of the portugees m... more inside

This is a recently renovated old small farm nestled in a unique position along a stream down an old celtic track in the heart of the vinho verde at the edge of the national park Peneda Geres.

We Kate Hans and our daughter Laura are in the process of converting an old watermill into a beautiful studio.

We are creating an eco retreat and still need to build a sauna and various landscaping projects .

We have 4 ponies (garanos) and chickens and plenty of foxes.

We are looking for people that can build, repainting woodwork/good at carpentry, making stone walls, helping in the vegetable garden or medicinal garden, clearing woodland etc

There is good food ,mainly vegetarian, meditation and yoga, good conversation, guitar and piano.
Nature is spectacular and the coast is 40 minutes away.

This is not-for-profit organisation that was formed out the desire of a small group of people who wanted to do more for art and culture in the Góis municipality. In only a year and a half, we have been able to implement several major projects on which you can read on our website.

We aim to be a cultural leader in the region, independent, with a sustainable structure and actively participation in public life.

We’re based in an old primary school, with the ambition to transform the building and its surroundings in to an active community art space through workshops and regular events; making use of the large rooms and outdoor space available. We hope that through Helpx we can meet like-minded people who are keen and interested in helping to develop the space.

Examples of work required:

- some restoration
- electrical work (dependent on skills)
- building work (i.e. outdoor stone oven)
- decorating (indoor & outdoor)
- gardening and landscaping (vegetable or flower... more inside

Ola! After having being volunteers while searching for land we are now proud hosts!
We are a family farm and permaculture project up on the western slopes of the Serra da Estrela mountain range in central Portugal. We are Sara and Emil, italian-swedish couple in our mid thirties. We bough the Quinta (farm in Portuguese) 3 years ago and so far we've made ourselves cozy - transforming an existing stable into our small but comfortable home, planted trees, got some animals, had a baby (Emma, who's now 1), started the renovation of the main house - simply enjoying the good life!

Permaculture is our biggest inspiration and it saturates everything we do here. We don't just want to live a sustainable life but we believe in going beyond sustainability towards abundance!
We'd like to be an example and inspiration to other people - we want to LEARN and demonstrate eco-construction, gardening, farming, animal care, alternative energy, woodland management, water management etc. etc. The ... more inside

Until march 2016 I am employed in a Hotel therefore most of the time I'm not at home. Only early in the mornings and at night time. This means my place is NO SCHOOL, I won't have the time to teach or show people around. If you want to come here you have to know what to do. There will be projects that need to be done but you're on your own. You can use your imagination and creativity. You will be your own boss. Materials or anything you need to work, I will acquire. If you are a good and fast worker we can sort some kind of payment out. Board and lodging will of course be free.
Projects that need to be done:
- Summer shower
- Outhouse
- Permaculture garden
- Cut and plant trees
- Build / reinforce paths
- Foundation for a Dome
Some good skills to bring are: ability to work with equipment like chainsaw, milling machine, brush cutter, etc.; skills in timber framing ; ability to work with stones, wood, cement, etc. ; knowing how to make plans and request materials.
It would be... more inside

An off-grid smallholding with 3 venues for guests.

This spring I could do with a hand in the garden, getting the horses back in trim ready for the guests, and lots of strimming and general land clearing. I'm also looking at digging a pond.

The website has more information about the place and myself.

I am happy to provide all food, but a share in the cooking /cleaning would be nice.

Accommodation could be in one of the 3 venues if not required for guests. There is room in the Mill for a single or couple, and camping is always available.

Important note - The website mentions myself and Cathy. Cathy died last January (I can't bring myself to take her off yet). While I am usually sociable, at this time I do need a fair amount of privacy, so you will need to be happy looking after yourself/ves. Get in touch and we'll talk.

One last thing - please be realistic about your experiences and skills. Over estimating one's abilities only wastes time and can cause problems. Ev... more inside
