We are a French-American family looking for folks to help us out with various projects around our old stone village house in Ariege, midi-Pyrenees. Our village is a mountain village of little more than 100 permanent residents, and our house provides superb views of Pyreneen mountain peaks. Any folks interested in staying with us must love children and cats (we have 3 kids and 3 cats). Things you should know about us: 1) we like to eat home-cooked meals with fresh organic veggies and fruits from our local farmer's market (mainly vegetarian), 2) we love hosting couples but prefer that each person can be independent, 3) we ask that our helpers also participate in our daily family lives (e.g. lending a hand occasionally), 4) a stay with us will not be a full immersion in french (although we all are fluent french speakers we make an effort to speak mainly English at home so that our kids will stay bilingual).

We are currently looking for workawayers for a few weeks who can do various... more inside

Who we are

We're a young at heart couple of English early retirees who have converted a barn to a house, which we'd like some help a to finish, renovating what will become a gite and taking control of the garden, which is a bit of a jungle at the moment. Never having had a garden in England, we're on a steep learning curve with our plot of 5000 square metres (just over an acre).
We're both keen cyclists, Nick especially loves doing cols in the Pyrenees and he keeps bonsai trees. Jackie enjoys sewing, patchwork and most things crafty, and is an aspiring textile artist, teaches English and basic French and plays guitar, though not brilliantly. We're members of the local cycling and walking clubs and active members of the local community.

Where we are

We live in the Gers, in south west France, surrounded by vineyards and 4km from a small town whose proudest boast is its motor racing circuit.

The help we need and what we'll provide in exchange

We would expect 5 hours he... more inside

English/Français

Hi everyone,

We are a young couple with a wonderfull little girl and we’ve just moved in south-east Aveyron, in Viala-du-Tarn, on a land of 4ha.
Our project is to live in food and energy autonomy within 2 or 3 years, but also to create a farming activity, growing fruits and vegetables.
(We are using many technics from agro-ecology, permaculture and alternative farming philosophy).

Our goal is also to develop a place of transit, exchange and encounters, as we were able to visit many during our world tour recently finished. A trip which was extremely rich in encounters and discoveries.

In few months, we have already accomplished a lot, especially thanks to our family and our friends ; but the project is still nascent and there are many things to do :
restore the house, creation of garden beds, retaining walls, paths, picking up rain water and a source… so, we are not bored !
We also have few hives, and a dozen chickens sharing ans spacing up our... more inside

Bonjour!

*** Looking for help in November to enjoy the last sunny days and working to prepare the garden ***

We are Annie (Australian), Jean-Philippe (French), Martin (9), Tomas (5) and Georges (0). We live in a large 18th century house on half an acre in the small village of Cox about 1 hour west of Toulouse. We speak French and English, and can stumble along in Spanish.

We are looking for practical, hard-working, independent people to help us finish renovating our house and getting our garden into shape. We need all kinds of help: wall-building, laying foundations, roofing, plastering, tiling, carpentry, painting, plumbing, garden design/maintenance, clearing out the barns, cooking, babysitting... You should be happy spending time in a noisy family, as our boys and the neighbours' kids will be excited about interacting with you.

We expect a total of 25 hours work per week. Depending on what big job needs doing next, we can be flexible about the schedule: e.g. some hou... more inside
