SPACE IN 2015
I have space in the Spring for volunteers. I will be in the Southern Alentejo region. Friendly, peaceful environment where you can help with horses, cleaning stables, grooming, wiping down tack, feeding and watering. Helpers must be prepared for early mornings and to build up their muscles! The centre offers riding holidays, lessons, hacks, pony club and livery to clients who mainly speak English. Caravan & house accommodation. English & Portuguese spoken. Lots of friendly animals, hot water, good food and company!

Anybody want to help us stack wood last two weeks of september?

Hello, we are Alan & Carole. We moved to Portugal 6 years ago to live a healthier & less stressed life, and to live as best we can from running a smallholding, we need your help. We are in Castelo de Vide which is in the Sao Mamede natural park in the Alentejo region of Portugal, not far from the Spanish border. It is like stepping back in time here, women still wash clothes in communal washhouses and carry the washing home on their heads, men use horses and mules in the field. We have a small farmhouse in a valley with a stream running through it and about 8 acres of land, some usable, some just rocks.Although not strictly organic we use very little in the way of chemicals. We have a polytunnel,15 sheep and 9 lambs, will be getting more pigs, 2 rabbits and a cat! (and at the moment a calf whose mother rejected it). The list of work that needs doing is long and includes tidying the land and river, land preparation an... more inside

My wife and I came to this beautiful area here in central Portugal (not near any beach) to make a new life for ourselves, we are very hard working honest friendly people and would expect only this from helpx visitors. We are driven to create a place which is a centre for the touristic motorcyclist (or bicyclist) there are normally plenty of opportunities to learn and use a large variety of practical skills. You as helpx people would be better suitable if you already have some skills. But it would not be a problem if you were a willing to learn keen worker wanting some new experience.
We hope to hear from you soon.

We are a couple (English & German) who have recently moved here to this magical part of the world.
We are in our mid 30's and have decided to leave the city behind us.
We are not a commercial farm, just a 5 hectare smallholding with various buildings, flat land and forest. We have 2 horses, 2 dogs, a cat and are in the process of acquiring pigs and chickens.
We are in the early stages of setting up a large vegetable garden with polytunnel and all building projects and maintenance are very much in their infant stages and require hands to help complete or initiate.

Gardening:
Planting, caring for and general maintenance, weeding, composting, orchard building, harvesting,
scrub clearance / strimming,
logging (on a fairly small scale)
Perimeter fencing

Building work:
We need work to be done on several buildings:
mainly rendering, plastering, fitting windows and doors. pointing
painting, interior decorating.
plumbing, electrical installation

Prepping and cooking. ... more inside

I am hoping to find help to look after my 90 year old mother who has dementia. This means she is like a small child and needs a companion. She does not need help with feeding or using the toilet but just likes to have someone with her. We live in the country with large grounds full of almonds, olives, fig and carob trees and would also like help to maintain the land and pick the fruit. We have just planted a small vineyard. There is space for a motorhome or we have a small caravan available.

My name is Ingrid Maria and I live on my own on in the Serra de Acor close to Serra Estrela.

A few years ago I did a PDC at Coed Hills in Wales that changed my life! Not doing anything by halves I packed up shop and left for Portugal, this where my ancestors came from and my calling took me there, to live off the grid, study Permaculture and create a self sufficient self sustaining forest garden.

3 years down the line I have completed my PDC with Geoff Lawton, am building my own home and creating the food garden of my dreams! However; It is only me on nearly 2 hectares of land and it is proving to be hard and not as enjoyable as it should be when realising ones' dream. This is why I am now asking for others of like mind to come and join me on this venture.

I aim to become an example to all those around me.To lead by example. I intend to create a small Education Centre where others can come and learn how to apply Permaculture ethics in their lives. I am interested in nutritio... more inside

We are setting up a small-holding in a rural area in the beautiful Western Algarve.

Currently looking for help from a practical, easy going and positive person.

Accommodation will be in a very comfortable self-contained American RV so you will have your own space and privacy.

We are entirely off-grid but do have all mod-cons and wireless broadband. We just need to be careful with electrical consumption.

The right person would be welcome to stay long-term.

We have 2 horses, 4 dogs, 4 cats and chickens. We also foster dogs and puppies from the local dog sanctuary, they may need a lot of care if they are injured or very young.

I tend to take care of the animals day to day so mostly we need help with the projects around the place including painting, building rustic walls, shovelling dirt (fun!!), gardening, sanding, firewood, picking fruit/nuts when in season... Some of the work is quite hardcore (like shovelling) but these jobs can be mixed with more relaxing jobs!
