Volunteer to help with a scientific research project - a bit different from other listings on HelpX!

I am researching seed dispersal by wind of an invasive tree - the grey sallow willow, which is damaging native waterways in Victoria. I'll be gathering data this spring in the Australian alpine area between October and December (around 2 Oct - 22 Dec). Specifically, I'll be visiting sites where willows grow and monitoring seed development, and also setting up some weather stations to measure wind.

And I need a volunteer to stay with me and help out for some or all of that time.

ACCOMMODATION:
Accommodation will be included and will probably be mostly camping, although if the weather is bad we have a house to retreat to. You can bring your own tent, or take the second sleeping pod in my tent (which is large or very waterproof). Helpful if you have your own sleeping bag/mat, but if you don't I should be able to borrow some for you. I'll probably get a gazebo and electricity... more inside

My location is South East of Melbourne on the PRINCES Highway - Route 1 around Australia;
20 minute walking distance to Gippsland rail line, 15mins train/car from Pakenham, which is the end of the metropolitan rail line (Dandenong/Pakenham Line).

Winding down my HELPX hosting as I work off site therefore may be a location that has less interaction with a host/family than you would prefer, and since about 2014 many more choices locally; see map version of HELP-X for this part of Victoria.

Maybe you can find some paid work in the district? And I can offer a low rent.

Remembering my backpacking days and ALL these new travellers is a blessing.

If you need a RESET for your travels or easing into a new Country/situation then happy to have you check in for a visit in a comfortable home and facilities as a trade for some basic tasks.

Happy travels

We have a large mudbrick home which we built ourselves. It is on a heavily forested block with large garden and fruit trees. We are regularly visited by koalas, kangaroos, wallabies and echidnas. We also have a great collection of native bird life permanently on the property - and we only need to take a 5 kilometre trip in the evening to find a wombat. We are 4k from Woodend Village and a train from there has you in Melbourne in 60 minutes.
We are retired teachers/academics who still lead a very active life.
Our project at the moment is building rock walls at the studio we have just finished on another property. The property is 30 kilometres from home and includes a little wine shop, pizza cafe and Art studio. We also need to do some basic landscaping. It's pretty simple work though - as long as you don't mind a bit of dirt on your hands.
You would have a queen size bedroom with garden outlook. You would also have almost exclusive use of the bathroom and shower room because... more inside

Hi Travellers and Helpers

offer for 1-2 helpers in a Western suburb of Melbourne (Melton)- just 35 mins on the train to Southern Cross Train Station.

Easy access to Melbourne for sightseeing or for a swim at the St. Kilda beach (only recommended in summer though). Great place to recharge and explore Melbourne.

You have your own bedroom and you share the bathroom and two separate toilets. Kitchen and living room are connected and are great for hanging out. Outside is a sitting area planned in case you are a smoker and there is a covered area with chairs in front of the house. Of course there is a BBQ. Wireless internet access available.

I speak English and German. The house is occupied by me, maybe another border and my two dogs. The dogs speak only dog language but listen to all sort of commands like sit, down, out, eat ... She is a small 5 year old German Shepherd mix named Bella - he is a 3 year old German Shepherd called Lou who likes to sleep, watch TV and c... more inside

Hi there.
We are a young Family looking for a friendly woman to come and love in our downstairs area for a couple of months to help with household chores in exchange for a beautiful place to stay with your own private space amongst the gun trees.
Warrandyte is a beautiful heritage area. With a village shopping area that wraps around the legendary yarra river.
It is a popular destination for tourists to enjoy the many bush walks and river swims as well as cafe's.
And our home is a 5 minute walk to both the cafe's and the river itself.

Hello! :)

We are a small family with 2 little kids. We are friendly people and loved traveling.

Our farm is located in Wandiligong, North East Victoria (9km from Bright, the main town). If you come to Australia, Bright and surrounding are not to be missed. Its a beautiful country town surrounding by mountains, creeks and rivers.
Lots of things you can do and see. Biking, hiking (Mt Buffalo, Feathertop, Falls Creek, Mt Bogong, etc). Work opportunity in farming - hops, grapes, apples, chestnuts, berries if you decide to stay longer in the area.

Our farm is a small farm with mostly cattle as a commercial product but also growing sheep, poultry, nuts and vegetables with seasonal crops for livestock.
Also run cattle on other nearby properties.

Trying to expand the tree growing, chooks & ducks and fish farming to a more commercial stage over time.

Have a small sawmill cutting timber mostly for own use and some exotic furniture timbers.

We need help with, general task... more inside

Looking for someone from 5th Nov-need help getting ready for the summer.

We live in an old house(in Australian terms 1854)that needs lots of care. It's a beautiful building with an interesting history, a BBQ area, large garden and old stables. Our little town has plenty of beautiful walks and bike trails, there are several coffee shops and the usual facilities, including an outdoor pool during the summer.Ballarat has plenty to offer including Sovereign Hill historical village and Gold mine, a wildlife park, cafes, restaurants, Lake Wendouree and more. Melbourne is just over an hour by train from Ballarat.
Guests would be required to help out for four hours (per person), 5 days a week which must include the weekend. There's lots to be done- Work includes weeding, clearing and cleaning, painting, labouring, housework and walk... more inside

**WE HAVE FOUND HELPERS FOR NOW AND WILL REMOVE THIS MESSAGE WHEN WE ARE READY TO BE CONTACTED AGAIN! Thank you...

We are an easy going couple living off-grid on a rural lifestyle property 90 minutes from Melbourne. We have a large productive kitchen garden, chickens, friendly horses, and dog. There's a small timber plantation, natural habitat/reveg, dams for swimming and fishing. For those interested in sailing there's an opportunity to crew with us in Melbourne (racing/cruising).

We want to host a dependable couple/2 friends who can help us with firewood collection - cut, split, stack. Other tasks may include general gardening, new projects, tend livestock, fencing, ride on mowing, light housework, cooking or whatever you'd like to do!

Local area: Yarra valley wineries, Cathedral Mountain range bushwalking, fishing, mountain bike riding. We've had travellers stay over the years who we've met locally by chance, have had a lot of fun with mutual benefits for all. This i... more inside
