We are a small family business and and have a 61 passenger boat, a gift shop a B&B and self catering in an old station which is over 100 years old. You would stay with us as one of the family, you will have your own en suite room. ( no smoking please) Over the winter months we need help with maintenance on the properties and boats. In the season we would like you to help with the B&B and boat and gift shop which is also an information point for the boat trips, a couple would be ideal during the summer months but don't let this put you off if you are travelling alone. Some one with IT skills would also be a great help. We also have a large garden so there is always lots to do there when there is time. It would be great if you can take a turn at cooking some times.
The village we stay in is near the Isle of Skye and has a great atmosphere, it is very friendly with two local pubs which have regular traditional music evenings. The village is on the loch and is good for water sports i... more inside

This is a smallholding with highland cows, shetland sheep, poultry, a vegetable garden, some new woodland, a small orchard, a sawmill and we are renovating old farm buildings to set up some self-catering accommodation. We are also developing some workshop spaces for woodwork and crafts. There is loads of work to do in any of the above areas, mainly outside and we would welcome people who have farming, gardening, carpentry and building skills. We produce lamb and beef and eat our own food as far as we can. We can provide vegetarian food if preferred and we appreciate helpers doing some cooking. Accommodation is provided in the farmhouse. There are two dogs also living in the house. We are two miles from the village of Saline which has one shop, eight miles from Dunfermline and there are public transport services to Edinburgh and Glasgow.

*Hi there, just a little update (2/1/18); there is not much need for help until spring/summer. Feel free to get in touch if you're thinking about coming to Scotland around then. Thanks!*

My son and I have lived on this smallholding for the past 15 years. We have a cottage, a rustic bothy/music rehearsal room where sometimes couchsurfers and helpx guests have stayed, a workshop for art and creative projects. We enjoy crafts, I make things from beach wood and my son is studying design.

The land is approximately 1 hectare, I have planted over 500 trees and they are just starting to mature. There is a vegetable garden and a polytunnel (greenhouse). I try to grow all my vegetables and I am still learning about preserving vegetables so that we can be self-sufficient as much as possible. I also have chickens for eggs, a cat that lives outside and a very energetic young dog!

I like to have contact with the things I need in life. Apart from growing food, I plan to use trees for ... more inside

We live in a beautiful hillside location in Aberdeenshire. Our property is a smallholding with milking goats, sheep and various poultry. We are also gradually converting land for the production of fruit and vegetables.

The help we require varies with the time of year. In early April, we start lambing. At other times help is needed with vegetable growing, weeding, fencing and field work. The minimum length of stay is one week.

Accommodation is in a cosy caravan with a beautiful view.

Although we are in a very rural location there is a regular bus service that runs 3/4 mile from the house which is on the main route from Inverness to Aberdeen. There are also train services from both Huntly and Keith which are each 5 miles away.

About us: we have 2 children of 10 & 7 who are homeschooled.
