The Erraid Community is a small island off the Isle of Mull (Inner Hebrides) and part of the Findhorn Foundation Community. As a spiritual land-based community we live and work together as custodians of the island and cottages that were built for the northern lighthouse board in the 1860s.

Our life is very practical whilst living with spiritual principles.
Our main role here as custodians of the island is to maintain the cottages and outbuildings. This involves: painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, maintaining the many sash windows, metal work, fencing and much more. Our second priority is keeping our aim of trying to live off the land as much as we can, we have organic gardens, two poly-tunnels, many chickens and will hopefully soon have our own dairy cow.

We are currently looking for work exchange to fill one of the following four roles:

*At present we are undertaking a lot of outdoor work including, pruning apple trees, planting trees, gathering and spreading s... more inside

Is there anyone out there who is available NOW (or soon) who has a desire to visit Scotland and help me get my vegetable garden and flower beds sorted for the Spring? The urgent weeding and tidying will only take a few days (or less) but if you wanted to stay longer there are LOADS of other jobs to do....read on....

We live in the lowland hills of S Scotland, in a stunningly beautiful, wooded valley with the River Whiteadder flowing along it.

Our business is forestry (300ha) and sawmilling.
We have several cottages that I look after that are lived in by long-term tenants.

I also grow most of our fruit and vegetables and dehydrate and freeze the surplus for the winter.

Over the next 2 years we will be building a new house for ourselves and a workshop from our own timber, processed in our sawmill.

Work will be very varied depending on the time of year and your skills.
It could include varied gardening jobs, chain sawing in the forest (if you have experience), picking... more inside
