I'm most of the way through a house renovation here in Sunny Central Portugal and could do with some help finishing off.

I need help finishing a stud wall, tiling, making a pond, sorting out the garden and that kind of thing. I've got nice accomodation available for suitable volunteers with wireless internet. I prefer volunteers over the age of 23. preferebly 2 friends together or couples. But if you are a good handy person who works well alone that is good too.

Description

Hi, I'm Natascha, 33 years old, living in Portugal for 2,5 years with the intention of staying! I've recently bought an old 17th century farm up high in the Portuguese mountains (the ends of Serra da Cabreira) and am working hard to turn this into a magnificent nature surrounded sustainable camping.
When I first 'met' this old farm, it was in good shape yet abandoned for many years...and it seemed to have lost its soul.
Now, after receiving many people here, friend, families, guests, workers and volunteers... I can truely say it's a magical place..with all the soul and spirit we need! People, animals and nature seem to get along just fine here!
However...it IS a lot of work to do...Too much for just me. Therefore, I'm always looking for some help...in all kinds of projects, in any month of the year.
Of course, during summer time, it's all about the guests.
Year-round, there's a lot of maintenance, carpintry, garden work..and..hopefully the start of a series ... more inside

I have been here one year now aiming to become self sufficient and live full circle.

The set up here is still quite basic. There is a composting loo, but it has no walls, same with bath. I have however now moved into the small house that is now habitable and so vacated the caravan. The caravan has running water (gravity feed from tank) and gas for cooking and heating (run on butane gas bottles). I would be willing to provide the caravan as accommodation in exchange for help with the goats, chickens and general help around the place.

There are also other ongoing projects such as the bio dome, tiling of the water tank, creating water retention spaces, constructing a composting loo, integratingg chickens with goats (creating perches and nesting boxes within) etc but currently funds are not available to carry out all these projects forward so looking into crowd funding. Any help with this could also be beneficial.

To see the greater project, visit our 2nd website link above.

I live in 2h secluded valley of cork oak where I'm looking for help with my ongoing project.

Over the last 15 years I've been building my house, using only natural materials (stone, clay and wood) and self made adobe bricks, mortar and plaster. Much of the materials are recycled, with only wooden fastenings being used, and traditional and alternative building technologies employed throughout.

We are self sufficient for water (from the small lake) and electricity (from the sun). The local village with shops and cafes is within walking distance; the coast is 4km to the south and 12km to the west.

The works that need doing are many and varied: land cleaning, tree care and pruning, collecting firewood, tree care pruning, landscaping and dry stone wall building for example. I'm currently working on the roof of the main house, and could use some general assistance on this, and in particular a top class artistically-minded carpenter would be most welcome. Also if you like tinkerin... more inside

Hello Helpxers,

We are a nice family who live in the countryside, in the center of Portugal.
We are looking for someone who can do some reconstruction work, with stones (that would be perfect, as it is an ancient windmill), enjoys working outside, as we can do jobs like cleaning the woods, chop some trees to get some fire wood, work the land on the backyard, etc.
We also want to improve our skills in what refers to speak English, so it would be nice if the volunteer feels comfortable to teach us and has patience to do so.
We have two "teenager" lambs, some chickens, 3 cats and a beautiful dog called Chocolate.
We will provide you a bedroom, food and everything you might need. We don't really expect you to work a certain number of hours per week. It doesn't matter how long it takes, we just want to stuff done nicely. Moreover, as it can be scorching hot in summer, in here, we prefer to wake up early in the morning and work a couple of hours or so, and do the same later in ... more inside

We are a retired English family with a 15 year old son. Our farm is a hobby farm and most things we do are for our health and for fun. On the farm we have - a donkey, pigeons, rabbits, bees, sometimes quail, guinea fowl and chickens. We are also trying to set up an Aquaponics system and have some solar power. We are striving to set up a permaculture garden. We have learned a lot about making the best of the very hot summers and the very wet winters and how this relates to growing plants and trees.
Your accommodation and some of your meals will be in a small caravan although we cook and eat outside quite a lot. We need help clearing bramble and extending our new food forest. 50 olive trees need pruning. Building work is also required to bring into use three cottages I have in the area. One day I will want help restoring the NORA - this is the donkey powered irrigation system.
Skills you might acquire - tractor driving, basic bee keeping, composting. You will learn how to manage... more inside

Fox Valley is a secluded off grid, permaculture project in the middle of the forest. Although it is close to a cafe and a lovely small village.

This is an alcohol and drug free space.

Most of the heavy work is done here and I am enjoying the more creative part of the process in the house and garden. I will be building a timber frame compost toilet soon and doing some landscaping at the back of the house.

An extra pair of hands would be great to keep things moving along. So help with any aspect of living here is welcome.

You would be happy here if you like peace and quiet and living close to nature. Also you must like cats and dogs.

If things are working out well then longer stays are available

Accommodation is basic at the moment but it is clean and comfortable, you can camp here or park a truck. There is a good shower and a compost toilet.
