Hello friends, we're a mixed, extremely friendly, open-minded and big-hearted Italian-Romanian family living in a small, but very international village in the heart of Transilvania (Unesco heritage site, sought after by tourists from all over the world). Since we have recently started renovation works in our country house to transform it into a cosy eco-bed and breakfast,we would be more than pleased to host volunteers with experience in construction works, carpentry, gardening, permaculture, straw building, clay oven building and so on. We offer comfortable accommodation (a separate room with central heating/stove, possibility of a separate bathroom, free wi-fi), yummy food (vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free food available), excellent atmosphere, lots of fun and extras (excursions, language course/exchange etc.). We are a Permaculture School Farm that is in construction where you can learn good skills about building your own house, growing your own food and many other.. We started this project in 2011 and it is almost finished, since then we have been constructed an underground root-cellar and an Eco-Dome house from earthbags, swales, and terraced gardens, rehabilitating a well and an old haybarn, clearing a forest to make a forest garden, and many other cool stuff like designing and starting to build a cordwood hobbit house, planting fruit trees and shrubs, building a terrace and a compost toilet and so on... We are very active people and we welcome volunteers who want to do some action and learn really useful permaculture knowledge.
We teach and design farms from 1 to 50 hectares or eco-buildings strategies for a family sized or even larger public buildings, therefore there is indeed much to learn about this

Hello, we are a young married couple living in Romania near Constanta. We both are very interested in permaculture and have studied and practiced it for around 6 years. Our homestead is a special one, very quiet and in a tiny village next to a reservation. I will also say this a great place for solitude and peace... We live 40 minutes away from civilization. The reservation is large and is called Rezervatia Geologica Cheile Dobrogei. The city is a short drive away as well as the sea (we will be taking trips often in the warm seasons).
We are constantly striving towards sustainability. We also have ducks, chickens, dogs and a cat. Our garden is a nice size, also many fruit and nut trees, as well as a small vineyard.
Florin is native Romanian but speaks English fluently, also some Italian and french. He is a glass artist. Main interests are glass art, natural building, gardening, and engineering. I {Hannah} am American, speaks English and spanish. Am well traveled. Main interests... more inside

Rural and Wild in Romania II

Live nature, discover traditions, help shape an interesting place.
Expect to: live in rough conditions, find hard work and be in a remote place.

If some of the things in the first paragraph appeal to you and you’re not to scared of the things in the second you might enjoy coming and helping here.

The Place
is a traditional household at the very end of a village in the old Romanian and Magyar tradition and deep in the middle of nature. We are two brothers Dan and Mihai, young Romanians who have bought the house after it was empty for 20 years- it endured some decay and the surroundings got wilder.

The living conditions
will be very basic with the toilet outside and water from the fountain. The house has 2 big rooms and a covered porch. One of the rooms is livable in but that means for now, we must share it. In winter since people spend more time indoors that makes some practical issues but with good will they can be solved. I ... more inside

Help with renovation of the house.
For now I wish a very patient person that can clean the bricks of my basement manually, a very psichologically demanding job, only for very patient people.
Help for the garden (300 sqm) to get all the veggies, in a eco/permaculture way. We do not receive smokers; no alcohol, no drugs.

Gardening veggies - eco/permaculture even biodinamics, watering/preserving water, courtyard arrangements, sift the earth. I like the activity to be done very well and to pay attention to details. I want that you respect my indications and if you have experience it is possible to be a little bit difficult for you. But we are very flexible also, we just need to communicate very well. It will be great if the volunteer for gardening knows to apply books of Bill Mollison, Heinz Erven, Masanobu Fukuoka.

For house, you will be helping me. For garden, depending of my time.
Be used to protect yourself when helping, wear protective gloves, glasses, etc. if the case. ... more inside

We are a family with one child and we live an ecological way of life. We are happy to meet people how have the joy to help and learn together with us. But we invite you at least 3 weeks, because we need time to share and harmonise each others.
This farm is based on growing fruits (orchard), vegetables ( permaculture). We have 2 goats.
Our village is situated at 500 m above the sea level, surrounded by mountains with wild forests. The view is spectacular, the air is pure, water comes from springs and local people are very warm. Here are still alive old and lost traditions.
Our home is a space where we learn and experience the connection with nature and with ourselves, about ecology, permaculture, homeschooling, sustainability, natural building, nutrition, alternative therapies...
Here we appreciate the resources( water, wood, food...) and we love to be in contact with the nature. In the summer we have an outdoor solar shower and a compost toilet. We don´t poison the ... more inside

Our Homestay is located in the North part of Muntenia, on the Transfagarasan road DN7C (It is the road that climbs to the highest altitude in Romania, 2042 meters, in the Glacial Hollow Balea.) The farm is 500m over sea level, with forests, pasture lands, hay fields. The house is 10 km far from Curtea de Arges and 25 km from Cetatea Poenari (Dracula’s Castle) and Barajul Vidraru (Vidraru Dam).

Size of farm: around 3 ha, but only around 0.7 ha is cultivated with vegetables and cereals

Description of farm: We are not really a farm. We have land and we cultivate it with vegetables and cereals for our needs. Cultivation of land is also a tradition for generation in our village and family.
Is not much to do in our little farm, but we have a daily routine (2-4 hours)

I welcome you to come and visit one of the most interesting wine regions from Romania, called Dealu Mare. Here I managed to find a beautiful old abandoned house which I plan to restore and prepare as a cycling friendly guest house.

Yes, I am a passionate cyclist and I love the old traditional architecture. I am a civil engineer at the base and I really intend to keep as much as possible the old authentic looks of this beautiful house.

During next weeks in 2016 we will work hard with continuing the restoration works:
- roof cover for main house (completed) - we used wood tiles
- cleaning the bricks and the beams from the cellar (Feb-Mar)
- recreating the floor from the cellar (Mar)
- remaking inside compartments in the main house (Mar-Apr)
- dismantling heavy brick wall from the annex (Feb)
- cleaning brick walls from existent plaster - main house and annex (Mar-Apr)
- completing insulation for the attic (Mar-Apr)
- cleaning the garden, cutting roots and weeds, re-desig... more inside
