We are a working couple whose children have left home, and we need to sort our house out. We have a dog, a cat and 2 chickens, and a busy, creative lifestyle. We welcome one or two people, as a couple or friends, to help us with cleaning, DIY, gardening, decorating and general household work; walking the dog would be helpful, and a great way to get to know our beautiful landscape.
We are happy with one or two week stays.
We are also keen to practise our French, German and Japanese, if you bring any of those with you.
You will find musical instruments here to play, plenty of CDs and books, and your own rooms with separate bathroom.
Our nearest town is Devizes, and we are on a bus route to Bath, Salisbury and Swindon. A coach runs from Devizes to London daily.
The county of Wiltshire offers some stunning prehistoric sites, the main ones being Stonehenge and the village of Avebury, plenty of barrows and tumuli, and the county is criss-crossed by many paths and bridleways. The... more inside

***Update***
Not living on the Isles of Scilly any more as I have decided to re-train as a Lawyer, currently living in Exeter (Devon). But as we had such good experiences with Helpx before, and have a spare room available, I am offering a room and food in our Exeter home in return for acting as a tutor for my 12 year old son for 2 hours per day (as he is currently home-educated), and generally entertaining him on Tuesdays and Thursdays while I have lectures. We prefer a good standard of English as we haven't managed to become very multi-lingual yet, and my son is very keen on sports (particularly football) so would appreciate someone who was also enthusiastic!
I also intend to try making some of our furniture, and am setting up an indoor growing system to produce our own salad crops so anyone with an interest/knowledge in this area would be particularly welcome (but not essential)! We also like to make as much as possible of what we use, so homemade jam, wine, baking and crafts ... more inside

Looking for spiritually-oriented and practical person to help me with preparing the soil and sowing/planting up of an organic vegetable garden 10 by 7 metres. There is homemade compost and horse manure to be dug or tilled in. Offer stay in retreat centre 4 miles from the pilgrimage centre of Glastonbury: website is naturesretreatcentre.com
In exchange for 4 - 5 hours 5 day week for 1 - 2 weeks: board and lodging (breakfast and one main meal, ingredients for a lighter meal). Must have experience. Soil is heavy clay in some parts but lighter in other areas - it varies a lot. It is sheltered in a square of beech hedge in the middle of a beautiful botanic garden. Extraordinarily peaceful. No Wifi but cabled-in broadband.

We live in the Chiltern Hills an area of 'Outstanding Natural Beauty' The area is one hour west of London but very rural. Nigel is a self employed countryside contractor and conservation adviser specialising in hedgerow management. He is a teacher of the traditional crafts of Hedgelaying and Scything. We have 100 sheep which graze on a local nature reserve. In exchange for accommodation meals and a weekly wage the helper would be taught a range of practical skills such as hedgelaying, fencing, planting and sheep work. amount of hours help is flexable. The work would be ideal for someone who doesn't mind working in all weathers and is physically fit. This is a great opportunity to learn practical rural skills. We live in a small village with a great local pub with easy public transport access to both London and Oxford.

We're a fun family of 4 (+ dog), living in a beautiful house in rural Wiltshire. We recently moved into the house from London, and I'm still learning how to take care of the garden and how to maintain the house.

I'm a yoga instructor, who loves food, music, dance, travel and yoga. I also have a yoga studio inside my my house where I hold my classes!

My 3 kids:

Girl, 13, loves animals, horse riding, nail polish and music.
Boy, 10, loves football, playing video games, writing stories and being smarty-pants.
Boy, 7, is an adorable and giggly boy who loves swimming, swings and music.

We love watching films, inviting guests over for dinner, cooking together, meeting new people from new cultures and going on roadtrips!
We have had au pairs for years and have stayed in touch with all of them!

We're relaxed, trying to enjoy life and simple things: cooking, music, laughing, having friends over, travelling, enjoying a cup of coffee or a glass of wine in front of TV, spendi... more inside

This is a non organic sheep, cattle and PYO fruit farm situated in the Lake District run by family members. We also have a thriving wedding venue in a 16th century barn on site so lots going on on the farm and the surrounding area is jammed packed with places to see and visit.

Myself, Abi and Paul live on the farm with our 2 children, Andreas 6yrs and Isla 4yrs and we have just found out we are expecting twins early next year!!! so a busy time ahead for all of us.

A love of animals is essential as we have 5 dogs and various farm cats.

At this time we are looking for 1 person preferably female but we would consider a male NON SMOKER who would be willing to come help me with day to day jobs around the house light cleaning and cooking, a bit of babysitting from time to time and basic jobs around the farm feeding chickens, collecting eggs, bottle feeding lambs where needed and moving stock on occasion. Agricultural experience is not required but will be gained from being with u... more inside

Hello,

We have a small mixed livestock (Sheep and cattle) farm, which is run to organic principles but not certified.

We are young farmers and are setting up, now in our 4th yr farming.

We live on the farm but also rent land outside around Totnes and on the beautiful South Devon Coast. Our farm is a great location to explore South Devon from and the winter is a great time to come as the beaches are quiet and villages serene.

We have lodgers and B&B rooms in our farmhouse and friends who live in a caravan on the farm. The accomodation offered is in a small double room with ensuite in our house.

We are offering a short winter placement only from now until December 18th.

There is wifi in the farmhouse and you will have access to our shared living space to check emails, warm by the fire and chat with us all etc...

We are a nice bunch. You are welcome to pitch in as much as you like but we ask for a minimum of 10hrs work a week per person in return for accommoda... more inside

We have a very large garden with a vegetable area and small orchard where we keep poultry.
We also have a field which is a couple of hundred metres away where we have a large orchard, paddocks, productive hedges and keep pigs intermittently.
This is not a farm, but an attempt at smallholding whilst trying to work and do other things too!
I make as much of our food from home-grown produce as possible and also use eg wood from our own land.
I intend to try hedge laying this autumn.
