This beautiful organic property is right next to the lovely Akatarawa river.
We believe in making the most of life and building great moments together.
We share the house and all amenities, plus internet access available.
You will have your own cottage which is shared with 3 others, or alternatively you can choose the campervan and share it with one other person.
We give all that we have to offer to try to make our time together meaningful and fun, and if you bring the same attitude with you we are going to have a great time and you will leave with many rewarding memories :0)
Ideally we want people to stay with us two weeks or longer, but happy to consider less time if you don't have much time available to you.
Please call me to find out if we have space available for you!

Hey guys, we basically need help with the household and sometimes some gardening work. It is mostly keeping the house clean and cooking dinner (we eat very early) and sometimes babysitting too. 2 hours for accommodation only and 4 hours for accommodation and meals provided by us (you cook, remember). Let us know if you are keen. Cheers

We are a Dutch/NZ Chinese family with three young children and we live in a modest but cute house in the hills. We have a lovely separate sleep-out (guest room sounds better!) with its own ensuite, looking out over native trees.

At the moment we are pretty settled and don't really need any help, however if you are someone with building/carpentry experience we would love to hear from you! We are looking at building a mezzanine floor in the sleep-out and if you think you would be able to do that for us that would be just amazing. It would be in your own room so we'd have to plan it so you can still sleep there at night! I don't think it would be complicated at all but it needs to be done by someone who knows what they are doing.

We offer free accommodation and food for up to four hours work a day. Fresh eggs from our chickens :-) Hours can be flexible; whether you prefer to do one day on, one day off or four hours every day we are happy either way.

Public transport is availa... more inside

We live in a house truck, and share our land with friendly milking sheep, a house cow and calf, a goat, pet pigs in the orchard, ducks, rooster, a retired hen, a dog and a cat. So our place would suit people who love animals.
Accomodation is basic with the choice of either a Bedford house bus or a 10m2 sleep-out or a house truck. We have a composting toilet system, a shower that works most of the time and a fire heated outdoor bath. It's a bit rough here, so would suit someone happy with an outdoor camping lifestyle.
There is Wifi, electricity and town supply water (we prefer the rain water for drinking). We are a few km from the beach, the river and a few km from the main highway (SH1). Shops are within walking distance (about 10min). You can borrow a bicycle if you would like to explore Otaki or follow the river cycle path to the beach. Wellington city is about 1hrs drive away.
Work is mostly outdoors. There are gumboots, overalls and a raincoat you can borrow. Some of the cur... more inside

We have just moved to this area and are looking for lovely people to help us establish a garden/vegetable garden. Also occasionally build up our firewood reserves, house maintenance etc. Each person would be expected to work 4 hours per day Monday-Friday and 2 hours on Saturday in exchange for food and accommodation.

We are part of a large extended family, although we only have our 2 youngest 16 year old boys living with us, we have 5 children and lots of siblings. There are always lots of family barbecues etc. We have a spare sleep out with a queen bed and itís own bathroom. Ideal for couples or friends who donít mind sharing.

We look forward to hearing from you.

I also need a little domestic help around the house...anyone keen to check out Otaki...? I love meeting travelers and look forward to being part of your NZ experience.

The weather is heating up finally and swimming in the sea and river is close!

Welcome to Naumai Cottage! Matt and Matiu would like to share our patch of paradise in Otaki, on the Kapiti Coast with international visitors travelling through NZ. My son Matiu is 4 years old and stays with me on the weekends, and enjoys meeting new friends as well. We live on a 1 achre lifestyle block with a chicken and lots of fruit trees, between the spectacular and wild Kapiti coast and the amazing Tararua Ranges, A National park for hiking. Come and experience Wellington. Close to city and in vibrant suburb of Newtown. Nearby treks in the green belt and over the hill from a good surf beach.Sunny private home. In return for a bed, breakfast and dinner provided (not lunch) I am wanting 3.5 hours work a day weeding, painting, practical DIY and maybe some cleaning inside if it's wet. I can cater for special diets such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten free.I enjoy cooking so it's not a skill I require from HelpX. Non smokers. Small friendly dog. Maximum one week stay. I really like you to have references so try and get these from your previous hosts.

Helpx required for the week of January 28th till the 6th Feb, the work will be physical and outdoors. It might be good if some days you work a full day and then have a full day off to sight see.
Linden and John have a half acre residential house, flat land, grass and trees. Work would be weeding, mowing, cleaning house, digging, cleaning exterior of house, painting. If there are skilled landscapers, we could do with some ideas in a few areas. there are three spare bedrooms so we could accommodate varying helpers. We are non smokers so would appreciate no smoking around the house and we do not take people for less than a week. There is lovely indoor outdoor living. Meal ideas are always welcome- especially a meal cooked by helpers, and typical of their country. We are 50 minutes from wellington, a 25 minute drive to the Tararua ranges for good hiking and Kayaking you could organise a visiting Kapiti Island bird sanctuary or Karori bird sanctuary; walk or bike through Queen Elizabeth... more inside
