August no longer available.

I am looking for the help of one or two young people over the summer with handling and training some very friendly Highland ponies! I also have three very friendly German shepherds.

I breed Highland ponies as a hobby for riding and deer extraction on my small farm on the east of the Scottish Highlands. I have a dozen ponies of all ages and stages of training, so I hope you will be riding some out during your stay. There is excellent hacking locally on the beaches and in forestry.

As I am retired and the ponies are a hobby, my approach to training is relaxed and easy going. I use 'natural' methods and let the pony set the pace. Even experienced riders coming here say they have learnt a lot about horse training and animal bnehaviour.

Absolutely no mucking out as the ponies are tough and live out 24/7, even the foals! Poo is either harrowed in or picked up by machine.

Accommodation is in a caravan, so you can enjoy your own privacy, with extr... more inside

HELP REQUIRED FOR JUNE 2018 to assist with gardening and to help with some basic renovation work. There is a large kitchen garden where we are endeavouring to grow the food we eat. These spaces need a lot of upkeep and easily get overgrown with weeds.
We are currently renovating a barn for additional living accommodation and trying to get our garden back to some kind of order. Including borders, small allotment area, herb garden, grass cutting, constructing new area for our soft fruit, weeding, etc.
The kitchen garden is overgrown due to neglect last year, so needs planting with potatoes and vegetables for the season. It is rather exposed so growing is a challenge! We have other areas that are planted with flowers, shrubs, hedging and other plants. This needs a lot of upkeep and attention. The remainder of our 30 acres is used for sheep grazing. Our intention is to create a home that is a model of sustainable and responsible 21st century living.

We are 6 miles from Dunfermli... more inside

HELP NEEDED FOR TWO WEEKS THIS JUNE. We are located in stunningly beautiful Argyll on the west coast of Scotland. It is a fledgling Natural Sanctuary consisting of 14 acres of woodland, meadow, a river, organic garden and free range chickens. There is a main house, a cottage which is rented out, and various outbuildings including an insulated caravan. At the moment, I am here managing Comraich on my own. My partner from India visits for 4 months every year and we travel around and run singing workshops. My vision is for Comraich to become a flourishing sanctuary and permaculture project for wild life and biodiversity, with various events such as woodland and foraging walks, singing and nature based spiritual workshops and maybe more animals. I am part of a small global spiritual community with roots in the Hindu tradition. I hold regular chanting evenings. It is an earthy-based spirituality that is about fully living and experiencing all aspects of being human. Though eating a lot... more inside

Small scale (mostly seasonal) old fashioned B&B in Highland coastal village requires help with all domestic duties, gardening, maintenance etc! Must like Jack Russells!!!! I am also a singer so a bit of 'roadie-ing' perhaps - plus I have a vintage clothing shop and on line business - so this placement would suit someone who likes variety, is creative and happy to just get stuck in with whatever needs to be done.
