I'm a 23 yr old young sprite from Bristol.. going to be travelling to Costa Rica in July/August...I intend to volunteer for the first few months. I want some unusual and exciting experiences and I want to meet some interesting and positive people... I have the CELTA so eventually will be looking for a job. Who knows when! My name is Katie MacDonald, I currently live in the South West of UK in a city called Bristol. I hope to be in Costa Rica late July (possibly earlier if a volunteer opportunity requires me at a certain date).
I am CELTA qualified (July 2011), I currently work with students (age 16-18) who study creative media. I am what's called "in-class support". I am responsible for responding to any specific learning needs, help with projects, essays, generally ensuring levels of motivation are up. I also teach a section of the course (script-writing) once a month.
I love my job but I'm ready for some adventures. I adore meeting new people, travelling and learning and if I can be of help to people along the way this would be the icing on the cake, so to speak!
The idea was to use my CELTA qualification to obtain a teaching job in a language school. However I would rather be involved in voluntary positions where I can use my teaching skills if required. I have spent all year saving in order for this to be an option.
With regards to my skills, I consider myself as quite a practical person. I like challenges and can pick up things quite quickly. I enjoy physical work and generally I'm quite resilient and strong for my size! I also hold a UK divers licence, passing in 2006. I am currently studying Spanish at beginners level. I have always enjoyed making and listening to music. I sing in a local choir, I have also been getting involved with local musicians who require female vocals on tracks. So any music making opportunities would be brilliant!
I consider myself to be a competent chef and cleaner/housekeeper. I am passionate about food and nutritious cooking or baking. My background is English Literature and EFL, however I have a great interest in the protection of animals and conservation. To be given the opportunity to be involved in these types of projects would be amazing, I'm eager to learn and happy with the opportunity to contribute in any way. In all honesty natural environments excite me, I adore the sea, the countryside and mountains make sure I get out of the city as regularly as possible.
