Helper Description:
I have not participated in a farm work exchange before, but I have worked on farms owned by family friends for short periods. My family also has a large garden and a chicken coop on our property, both of which I am frequently involved in maintaining. I know a good deal about landscaping and general labor, as I have worked 3 years for a State Department of Environmental Protection (State Park Division). I have experience driving very large trucks, tractors and lawnmowers. I am confident that a transition to large farm equipment would be seamless. I do not have a CDL or International driver's license, but I'd be open to getting one or both if necessary. I am willing to work hard and I am physically and mentally capable of doing so. I can lay asphalt and pour cement slabs. I also have experience working with customers, as a result of sales jobs at a ski shop, Williams-Sonoma (a kitchen supply shop), and bartending/kitchen/ serving jobs. I have some sailing experience, and I have spent a good amount of time on the water. I know my way around a boat and can be very helpful. I can operate small to medium sized power boats, and I am a useful deckhand on sailboats. I have done a good deal of sanding, painting and varnishing, both interior and exterior. I have spent countless hours working with a chainsaw and axe. I am trained in Wilderness First Aid, CPR and general First Aid. I am an Eagle Scout and served as an Assistant Scoutmaster before I moved away to go to college. When I can, I enjoy skiing, climbing, backpacking/ mountaineering, biking, sailing, brewing beer and mead, live music (particularly Phish, the Dead, and bluegrass), and just exploring in general. I dont play any instruments, but I'd like to learn. I like reading. Ultimately, I have interest in working as a Wilderness Therapy guide or outdoor skills instructor. I am also interested in journalism and publishing. For now, however, I aim to take advantage of my freedom and lack of restrictions. I am interested in learning about riding horses, raising/ caring for/ processing livestock, training/ caring for sled dogs, canning/ preserving, roasting coffee, and automobile maintenance. I like fishing, but I'd like to learn more about it. I would also like to get some hunting experience. I'd love to learn more about carpentry. I am open to learning any other skills that you're willing to teaching me. I can provide personal, professional, and academic references who would be willing to discuss my dependability, work ethic, and skills. I look forward to hearing from you!
