Companion Ad: I will be in Spain, starting in Benicassim from July 12-16 and hoping to make my way along the coast. If there is anyone around the area after that date looking for *helpx companion I am open to the possibility of meeting, and maybe finding a host together. So far I am a blank canvas and up for travel suggestions too...so if you have ideas throw them at me, spontaneity is key!
Next Destination(s): i am now in barcelona looking for placments around
Helper Description: I am from Toronto, Ontario, Canada but have been living in the South-West coast of Devon for the past year now as an exchange student. To say that my experience abroad has been busy/eventful is still an understatement. This year I have been working in collaboration with a local art collective, collecting/writing my dissertation, embarking on random travels, and jumping in the ocean.
I have a passion for learning by experience, and sharing skills with gentleness. I am interested in spending at least 2-week with a farmstay, family, or intentional community. I will be traveling around Europe from the end of June until mid July. Knowing that I will probably need time to collect myself from bouncing from place to place, I want to take time and settle down somewhere in Spain to farm, work, and find a welcoming community to call 'home'.I am keen on kick starting creative projects, running workshops or coordinating skill shares if that is of interest to any hosts.
This is my first HelpX experience I am also a member of WWOOF and Couchchsurfing but I am very impressed and happily overwhelmed by the variety of different opportunities available here. My goal here is to hopefully learn Spanish/and or Catalan, start gardening/farming again and make and do many things with people!!
My background is primarily focused on the arts: in particular public art and community programming. I am an enthusiastic arts and crafter, music maker, and bread baker. Alongside the performing/visual arts food is something I love-all in the growing, making, and sharing-I find is an artform in itself. Food is much more than a tangible, edible, tasty delight it is symbolic and tells a unique story of our history, the land, the people and the environment...to some I say that, biologically, we are meant to be farmers.
I have experience working and living on an organic farm, both last summer (2011) and the summer before (2010). In my experience I have learned about biodynamic farming, preserving, fermenting, seed collecting, composting and harvesting. I have also done smaller scale urban garden projects.
*I will most likely begin in Valencia July 18 and I am available to stay anytime until August 2. From July 18 I will be free and willing to accommodate my scheduled for volunteer positions*
Interests: As of late, I have become increasingly interested wild food forging-weeds, and flowers especially. Cities as it relates to psychogeography and public spaces. The smell of the sea, and eating outside.
