Helper Description: *I am currently working in Germany through a program called FOEJ, as of June I will be free once again! I'm happy to read all proposals:)*
If the offer was right, i.e. if I felt I could give something valuable to the host and that they were able (and willing) to teach me a little about some of the interest outlined below, I'd consider travelling a good distance to reach the location..
Ideally I'd find a place where there would be a possibility to learn about all/some of the following:
Sustainable development (green building, renewable energy, aquaponics, urban farming, permaculture etc.) beekeeping , anything concerning water –how much/where and for what it’s being used, managed and abused, the methods adopted to ‘treat’ it and steps we can take to go about testing, cleaning and preventing further water pollution .
I’d also like to learn about different ecosystems and the symbioses we can find between plants and animals. Basically anything that comes under biology’s umbrella.
About me-
I am practically minded, have a positive attitude in conjunction with strong work ethic, I am reliable, comfortable working unsupervised although I prefer to work alongside others, I have an eye for detail and an awareness of what’s going on around me. I’m always eager to try my hand at new tasks as I really love learning new skills, developing those that I’ve already picked up and enjoy a good challenge!
Some of the knowledge I have gained from past employment and volunteer work include:
Basic building + labouring know-how, biodynamic gardening, Dry rock-wall and Fence construction, Operation and maintenance of heavy machinery and power tools, Hiking track maintenance, Caring for animals, Wood work, Customer service and a variety of other hospitality related skills- this is not exhaustive but gives you a better picture of what I can offer..
I have held positions as: a manual labourer for Anthos Landscapes, industrial grounds man for IGM Waikato, a conservation volunteer in the Swiss alps, a volunteer at concert producer’s assistant for a company called Affordable Sounds and for a group called the Nordic Giants,
I also have experience working within the hospitality industry in a range of different roles including Kitchen hand, Food assembler, Till operator, Waiter and Barman at the French Tart Cafe, The Audio Art Café, Skycity(Hamilton), Grey Street Kitchen and in a ski resort (Austria).
In addition to the above I have been employed as a student exchange representative at the Waikato Pathways College where I worked with international students, aiding in their development of conversational English and have volunteered; for a community centre involved in Brighton’s music scene(in the UK), as a conservationist in the Swiss alps, at a couple of homestays in Germany and Sweden, on a goose farm/apiary/candle workshop in the Eifel of Germany
