Marlborough
Marlborough is often the sunniest and driest region of New Zealand. Often the first part of the South Island travellers get to see is the beautiful Marlborough Sounds as they arrive by ferry from Wellington. The Sounds are a great place for sailing and there are many, sometimes boat access only, helpx hosts scattered throughout the Sounds.
Things to do
Go sailing with the Waikaka Sailing Club, near Picton.
Multi-day walks
Queen Charlotte Track
Tips
If arriving here by ferry from Wellington, check the Blue Bridge ferry company as its fairs are often cheaper than the larger InterIslander ferry company and its ferry terminal in Wellington is located downtown.
The Queen Charlotte Track is a great first multi-day walk to do in New Zealand as your main luggage can be dropped off for you by boat to your requested destination each day.
