We are a couple in our 40s living on a self-sustainable homestead in the Central Cariboo.
Our farm is in a semi-remote little peaceful and quiet valley with lots of wildlife and especially birds on the marsh along the creek. Our electricity is a grid-tie system with hydro and solar panels.

The food we eat is 90% self produced. We have a herd of Dexter cattle and milk one or two of the cows when we need milk, every year we do meat chickens (don't worry, we don't butcher them ourselves), and we preserve most of our food for the winter. We also have four dogs and three horses and the animals are a big part of our lives, if you are a confident rider, we could go for rides, too, but since they are arabian horses you will have to be able to handle a spirited horse out on the trails.

We consider ourselves to be down to earth, creative people and are looking for conscientious, flexible people who can handle a remote setting in the wilderness. We only go to town every 1-2 weeks.

**Currently booked for spring/summer but we are looking for a handler for winter starting in Nov and ending in March** If you love animals, working outside, are independent, reliable, love nature and don't mind a couple dogs in your bed ;) we would love to have you join us*** Work with siberian huskies, some farm animals and grow a garden on a small farm in Northern BC. We moved to the acreage in May 2012 and had and amazing winter with our husky family! Located on the lake in Prince George B.C. we have 22 happy sled dogs. Our dogs are part of the family and are not viewed as just work animals, they are our loved pets :) They sleep in our beds, they beg at the kitchen table and they snuggle on the couch. The care of the dogs is my number one priority. They love attention and are happy to have visitors and time to play. I have met some amazing people through volunteers and have made some life long friends. I want volunteers to make themselves at home and enjoy getting to know them. ... more inside

We are a large working cattle ranch in the beautiful Chilcotin region of BC where we raise cattle and horses, as well as a small flock of sheep. We run 850 mother cows, 200 replacement heifers, 55 Bulls, a herd of 15-20 horses and we currently have 3000 acres in forage production. We do all of our cattle work on horseback the old fashioned way. We are a progressive young couple that own the ranch (33 & 41) and we also have other full time employees year round from cowboys to haying crew, contractors etc. Our ranch is located close to the mountains with a river flowing through the whole property and many lakes nearby. The wildlife in this part of BC is incredible with common sightings of bears, moose, deer, wolves and coyotes. There is always an assortment of work to be done at the ranch from cattle work, gardening, fencing, cowboying, feeding cattle and horses, and in the summer a lot of haying and many other jobs; you would be working with us doing whatever we are doing at the tim... more inside

We live off the grid (with an array of solar panels and a backup generator run on recycled vegie-oil) on 160 acres of mixed forest with several creeks flowing through it.

Gardening (we have a good sized vegetable patch) is part of the spring, summer and fall routine as well as gathering firewood, trail clearing, caring for our ducks and horses, fixing fences, and picking edible wild foods and herbs etc. We eat a lot of what the garden has ready or what is in the root cellar.

We continue to work on the new addition (including a 2 story turret) to our owner-built house (a passive solar design) using as much local material as possible, combining earthbag, strawbale, cob, and adobe with a post and beam frame.
We 're also finishing a new greenhouse (64'x12'), and look forward to a longer growing season for tomatoes, peppers etc. and to be able to try to grow more exotic foods such as yams, ginger, lemons etc.

We are looking for helpers who are physically fit, hardworking, k... more inside
