Hello :)
Welcome to Williams Lake, BC !!
I have a 20 acre private equestrian property located 10 minutes from the city of Williams Lake in the Cariboo/Chilcotin area of the interior of British Columbia. Activities in this area include swimming, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, kyacking, camping, etc. This is some of the most spectacular scenery on the planet!

I am looking for independent self motivated and positive individuals who are capable of working on their own. Work may involve; carpentry, fencing, grounds keeping, landscaping, mowing, harrowing, weed eating, wood cutting/clearing, rock/stick picking, painting..... etc. All the things that help to develop and maintain an evolving horse property.

Experience with power tools and farm equipment (small tractor, harrows, mower, chainsaw etc) is an asset.

Interested travellers should be individuals that enjoy physical outdoor work, good food, and good humour!

My place is home to privately owned ... more inside

We are looking for someone who is comfortable working with horses, who would enjoy taking care of a variety of other small farm animals. Carpentry experience is also an asset, as there are many fix-it projects around the place to work on.

We are located in a largely forested area with some nice open fields and great trail riding areas just ten minutes out of town of Smithers. Helpers are welcome all year round: We have horses, ponies, sheep, goats, llamas, rabbits and chickens that need to be fed and watered every day. Catching, brushing and saddling up horses for the trail rides is your mission as well as handling young horses to get them used to people.

If you are already a horse person, that's great, if not we will help you at the beginning until you become confident around them. We have taught many people how to ride here.

Things can be very busy here especially during the summertime, there are special events coming up where we set up a petting zoo do pony rides f... more inside

Organic Status: Not certified, but practice organic principles

Our property is about 75 km North East of Williams Lake (we can pick up helpers at the bus station in Williams Lake). The property is currently being developed for small scale organic market gardening (uncertified but we follow organic methods & principles). We plan to sell veggies, and fruit from our orchard. We are preparing to move out to the property full time, but currently just have two small cabins out there which are used primarily during the summer. We have a large veggie garden, fruit trees and berries, and horses. The property is on a lake, in a beautiful valley which supports an abundance of wildlife. Our lake is in the middle of a chain of 8 lakes, all of which are accessible by canoe. In your time off you can explore the valley, by hiking, biking, canoeing or kayaking. Other things you can do include swimming, fishing and windsurfing. Our helpers typically stay in tents (with a bed) as our cabins are both very small. All of our guests have enjoyed sleeping out in the t... more inside

Gardening, firewood, animal care, harvesting of wild herbs and plants, light housework, trail maintenance, construction of a new woodshed, and modifying our cookstove to heat water are all on our list. Bulkley Canyon Ranch is a great place to learn about living off-grid with solar power and connect with nature. A private bedroom in the house is yours to use. We live simply and do our best to have a low ecological footprint. Most of our food is local, from our gardens, the forest, rivers and the Pacific Ocean. The house is modern with plumbing and propane is currently used to heat water for showers. Internet is very limited but email is possible. Work with siberian huskies and sled dogs is Northern BC. We moved to the acreage in May 2012 and had and amazing winter with our husky family! Located on the lake in Prince George B.C. we have 22 happy sleddogs. Our dogs are part of the family and are not viewed as work animals. The care of the dogs is my number one priorty. They love attention and are happy to have visitors and time to play. I have met some amazing people through volunteers and have made some life long friends. I want voluneers to make themselves at home and enjoy getting to know them. Daily chores include husky massages and love, scooping poop, feeding and providing fresh water, and other daily maintenance. We are also a smoke free home, non-smokers only please :)
