We are a couple in our 40s living on a self-sustainable homestead in the Central Cariboo.
Our farm is in a semi-remote little peaceful and quiet valley with lots of wildlife and especially birds on the marsh along the creek. Our electricity is a grid-tie system with hydro and solar panels.

The food we eat is 90% self produced. We have a herd of Dexter cattle and milk one or two of the cows when we need milk, every year we do meat chickens (don't worry, we don't butcher them ourselves), and we preserve most of our food for the winter. We also have four dogs and three horses and the animals are a big part of our lives, if you are a confident rider, we could go for rides, too, but since they are arabian horses you will have to be able to handle a spirited horse out on the trails.

We consider ourselves to be down to earth, creative people and are looking for conscientious, flexible people who can handle a remote setting in the wilderness. We only go to town every 1-2 weeks.

We live off the grid (with an array of solar panels and a backup generator run on recycled vegie-oil) on 160 acres of mixed forest with several creeks flowing through it.

Gardening (we have a good sized vegetable patch) is part of the spring, summer and fall routine as well as gathering firewood, trail clearing, caring for our ducks and horses, fixing fences, and picking edible wild foods and herbs etc. We eat a lot of what the garden has ready or what is in the root cellar.

We continue to work on the new addition (including a 2 story turret) to our owner-built house (a passive solar design) using as much local material as possible, combining earthbag, strawbale, cob, and adobe with a post and beam frame.
We 're also finishing a new greenhouse (64'x12'), and look forward to a longer growing season for tomatoes, peppers etc. and to be able to try to grow more exotic foods such as yams, ginger, lemons etc.

We are looking for helpers who are physically fit, hardworking, k... more inside

I am a self employed carpenter(www.finelinecarpentry.ca) with a beautiful piece of land on the Sangan river outside of Masset on northern Haida Gwaii. I am a short 4 minute walk to the expansive and breathtaking North Beach where you can easily catch your own crabs and dig razorclams for dinner or simply just beach-comb. Everything here on my land is still in the early stages, but I do have the beginnings of an awesome organic garden. I am converting a bus into a living space, and have for helpers a 'mushroom shack'(a somewhat temporary shelter often used by commercial mushroom pickers as they follow the crop) in the forest in which I have lived myself during past summers. It has running water and a woodstove and hydro, but if your a tenter at heart there are some great spots around also.
As a working person I am often busy and so won't really be expecting too much from folk when this is the case. During such times I guess I'm primarily offering a place for folks to stay and exp... more inside

We are a large working cattle ranch in the beautiful Chilcotin region of BC where we raise cattle and horses, as well as a small flock of sheep. We run 850 mother cows, 200 replacement heifers, 55 Bulls, a herd of 15-20 horses and we currently have 3000 acres in forage production. We do all of our cattle work on horseback the old fashioned way. We are a progressive young couple that own the ranch (33 & 41) and we also have other full time employees year round from cowboys to haying crew, contractors etc. We are not certified organic but we do NOT use chemicals, pesticides or implant our animals with hormones. However, we do have a full herd health program that includes vaccinating our animals from disease and we use antibiotics when necessary. Our ranch is located close to the mountains with a river flowing through the whole property and many lakes nearby. The wildlife in this part of BC is incredible with common sightings of bears, moose, deer, wolves and coyotes. There is always a... more inside

We are a middle-aged couple (cabinet maker/carpenter & nurse) in the process of transforming a former, rural police station into a small enterprise (candle making and wood crafts).
We chose the Robson Valley for its location, natural beauty, family relations and friendly people. The young but mighty Fraser River meanders between the Rocky- and Cariboo Mountain ranges, nurturing soil and soul.
Farmers, artists, travelers, and outdoor-enthusiasts are drawn to this area alike. If you like hiking, biking, fishing, wildlife watching, canoeing, horse back riding, reading, writing or painting then stop by. Bring your smile and your skills and help us for a few days or weeks with our "cop shop project" (building, renovating, landscaping). We're also glad if you're eager to cook some meals.
We offer 1-2 bedrooms with shared kitchen and bath room under one roof, a quiet environment, healthy meals and German or English speaking as per your preference.WiFi available.

***Helper needed for all kinds of odd jobs from right now up and also in July and August 2015: We are currently looking for helpers who can support us with a couple of smaller projects we are hoping to start soon: Painting, gardening/weeding (we have a small vegetable garden and flower beds that need to be looked after), some support for our housekeeping staff on busy days, etc. Ideally, you can stay for at least 2 weeks or so.***

We operate a 49 person capacity hostel located in Prince Rupert - the last Canadian town before the Alaskan border on the magical West Coast of BC. Deer in the backyard, orcas in the harbour, bald eagle fights right above your head while you munch a muffin in our favorite coffee shop down the road, and the most beautiful rainbows you can imagine. Yeah! That's Prince Rupert how we love it. The town is a travel hub for people heading west to Haida Gwaii, North to Alaska, south to Vancouver Island and east towards the Rocky Mountains.
