John and Sally and their 3 daughters operate a family beef cattle operation across 4 stations in northern and central Qld. We live 215km north west of Charters Towers. There is no public transport available from Charters Towers on, so we need at least a week's notice to be able to get to town to pick someone up.

The country ranges from the volcanic black and red soils of the Basalt country to loamy creek frontage and the buffel filled plains of Central Queensland.

We have a busy year involving a lot of cattle work, some fencing and maintenance work, a little gardening and some domestic work when there is nothing suitable outside. We normally employ about 6 to 7 staff to help us get the work done each year. Each day is interesting and challenging and presents many learning opportunities.

A typical day could include getting up early to go mustering cattle - tearing through the bush, communicating only by 2 way radio with the rest of the mustering team, as you work to deliver a mob of cows or bullocks into the yard for processing the next day.

Another day could see you out in the paddock feeding lick to hungry cattle in the dry season.

There could be a bit of pruning or mowing to do in the house yard, there might be a painting project under way, or some fencing to do out with the men.

Wandovale is well watered with many pretty swimming/picnic sites. You could throw a line in or go for a walk and see the abundant wildlife.

Our winters are quite cold (we do sometimes have frost), and our summers are quite hot. Because we are much higher above sea level than Townsville and Charters Towers however, we do not get the awful humidity they experience closer to the coast.
After each day, we all sit down to an evening meal together and talk about the day ahead.
Our GPS coordinates are: Longtitude - 144.89 degrees East and Lattitude - 19.67 degrees South.
