Hello everyone!
The hostel will be re-opening on the 15th of July and we will be hosting again from that date till November. Looking for people!

Welcome to our Backpackers!
This is a fun, friendly Hostel in the delightful Scottish West Coast seaside town of Oban.
Here in our establishment we have a ‘thing’ for cleanliness . So we need year-round help to keep our Hostel sparkling cleaned and to make sure every guest feels welcome and special.
We are always looking for happy, positive and friendly people to join our international team. Our business is providing comfortable and affordable accommodation and a warm, welcoming atmosphere to our guests.
Accordingly, we are looking for open minded people who would enjoy meeting the world in a safe and comfortable environment. We can host you for a minimum of 2 weeks and up to 2 months.
*PLEASE NOTE: no matter what else you can do, be prepared to help us out with general cleaning and housekeeping.
Experience is not necessary, as we will train you to meet our very high housekeeping standards. We need helpful volunteers.
Oban is a well-serviced tourist town, with a population of 8.500 people during the winter and over 25.000 during the summer season. It’s a busy fishing port and also the ‘ gateway for the isles’, the biggest ferry port of the West Coast of Scotland. It’s a great base to explore the Inner and Outer Hebrides and mountains, lochs and glens surrounding the area. There are so many breath-taking walks, bike rides, boat trips, camping and outdoor activities here, not to mention the best, freshest seafood you can get. There is also plenty of nightlife with many friendly pubs all over town.
The Backpackersplus has 3 buildings that sleep about 85 guests in total, in both dormitories and private rooms. We clean the whole Hostel every day, and there is a lot of coordination and cooperation involved in getting all the work done between check-out and check-in time.
Our volunteers work 3-4 hours per day in exchange for accommodation in shared staff dormitory, including breakfast, WiFi and use of laundry and kitchen facilities.
Once the work is done, you are free to enjoy yourself. There is plenty of fun to be had and plenty of friends to be made.
Once you get here, you will start working the day after your arrival.
In the morning you can help yourself to our continental breakfast up till 10:25. At 10:30 you will have a meeting with all the staff members in charge and the other volunteers and someone will show you what to do...there is a lot to do and to remember… but also lots of fun going on. Housekeeping is not rocket science and and our team will always be there to help and support you.
We provide all of your bedding, linen, towels. You will have access to a well-equipped self-catering kitchen, so you can do your own thing with food for your daily meals.
You will get one day off per week and we will try to be flexible to give you the chance to explore Oban and its surrounding area and make the most of your time here.
Our staff are happy and energetic folks, with a passion for travel and backpacking. We all strive to make our guests’ stay pleasant and comfortable. Our team always needs positive people with an eye for details and a ‘can do’ attitude. We believe that happy and positive staff set the tone for a fun and relaxing environment for our guests and for our volunteers as well.
We would like you to stay at least 2 weeks to get properly involved
( and a lot of the volunteers we had so far have liked it so much and have extended their time here and/or come back few times!) and it gets easier for everyone if you give yourself the time to learn.
If your English is not perfect, don’t worry. Our international staff will be happy to share their knowledge and there will be plenty of occasion to practise. A big smile and a willing attitude are for us more important than a perfect vocabulary.
So get in touch if you have any questions. We would like to hear from you!
Send a cover letter telling us a bit about you and the dates of the period you wish to spend with us.
We will get back to you as soon as possible to let you know if we have space to host you.
**Travel information: buses and trains come up to Oban from Glasgow daily. The last train and bus will leave Glasgow around 6:00 P.M. So make sure to plan your trip carefully. If your flight gets to Glasgow ( or Edinburgh) in the evening, you will need to spend the night in the city and get to Oban the day after. The bus and train journey from Glasgow takes about 3 hours.
Ticket for buses and trains are usually cheaper if bought in advance.
