LOOKING FOR HELPER FOR THE 2018 SEASON.

Located beside the beautiful tidal Cogmagun River, Moon Fire Farm is a family farm providing locally grown organic and heirloom produce and products. We are the only farm in the maritimes growing exclusively heirloom vegetable. We attend the Halifax Brewery Farmers Market every Saturday morning and operate a 10 member CSA weekly. We also do wholesale to restaurants. We raise pigs on pasture, free range chicken for meat and egg. We also do alot of value added product with our produce, from tomato sauce to spicy pickle beans. On top of that, we have a 1 acres orchard of peach, apricots, asian pear, nectarine.

Our specialty is growing unusual and rare vegetable. From black carrots to Okra to highly specialize Italian crop, we are starting a new adventure in the specialty gourmet chef market. Also this year, we are in the process of opening a cafe at the market and will start offering high end gourmet meal with our in-season farm vegetables.

We are developing a growing system that involved heavy mulch, close planting and some permaculture system. We are only using hand and small tools and are working to developed a low to no till system. We do our own organic fertilizer on the farm and this year will be investing more time into soil nutrition and remineralization.

Farm Helpers are expected to work for 35 hours per week in exchange for room and board and a stipend. There is an expectation to assist with household chores in common living spaces and meal preparation. There is a cabin to stay in next to the home. Helper have access to bicycles, canoe, close to lake and the ocean. Also, helper have the possibility to go to Halifax on a weekly basis. Stipend can be negotiated for longer stay. If you want to work hard (but not too hard), have fun, learn and be part of an alternative way of farming, this is the stay for you.

Families with children are welcome. We are LGBT2IQQAP friendly. Work arrangements for families can be negotiated and flexible.
