Last Updated: June 6, 2016

Week beginning 6 June 2016: if anybody is available for this week or part of it please contact me immediately. I need help spreading compost in a field.
This is a croft in a glen on the west of Skye: 1 acre coniferous woodland, a little new woodland and a native-wooded burn, 4 cows and 2 hens; 2 working collies who are pets as well; the garden has gone to the dogs and needs clearing and sorting out. Lots of help needed with woodlogging, maintaining fencing, moving cows, muck-spreading, bush-grass-bracken-creeping thistle-docken cutting and clearing, digging and cleaning ditches, clearing paths. Not all this has to be done at once: depends on the season, weather, midgies, time available and the inclinations and skills of both host and helpers. Helpers should be happy to work on their own sometimes. I hope to install a micro-hydro-electric scheme this year so work may be connected with that.
Accommodation twin room and double room. You should be fairly self-sufficient in outlook as you might find it a bit quiet. All mod cons available.
Help in the kitchen is a must.
This is a rural community in the back of beyond, 4 miles from the nearest village of Carbost which has a small shop, pub and school; 22 miles from the nearest larger village of Portree. There are buses into Portree 2 or 3 times a day and a couple to get back again.
There are buses 2 or 3 times a day to Inverness, a large town, which is 120 miles away. You have to co-ordinate a bus from here to get the bus to Inverness at Sligachan 12 miles away.
I expect HelpXers to find their own way here as part of their experience of getting to know the Highlands. For travel information TravelineScotland is good to plan your journey.
The coast is a mile away but Skye has a huge indented coastline. There are many local walks and the Cuillins are close at hand.
I have a couple of bikes you can use if they will suit you.
Please look at a map to understand the area.
