We teach Agnihotra, an ancient method of purifying the atmosphere through specially prepared fire. People all over the world use Agnihotra for organic farming, personal healing, stress reduction, and to heal the environment from the effects of pollution. We also teach Homa Therapy farming.

We have a lakefront property with a large organic garden and woods. Excellent hiking trails are fairly nearby in Shenandoah National Park. (Helpers may use our Park Pass and visit the park free of charge.) Runners and hikers can also use the nearby fire trail, which is walking distance from our house. We are working toward a self-sufficient, sustainable lifestyle, and have solar-powered electric and hot water, a large solar dehydrator, a rocket stove and 2 Zebu cows. We've also begun experimenting with a solar oven.

We have many outdoor projects--gardening, yard work, landscaping and beautifying the place. In early spring we especially need help with redoing our electric fencing and preparing the garden beds.

If the weather is rainy or too hot/cold, work may involve cleaning the workshop or heavy housecleaning. We will also need help with some indoor and outdoor house painting. (Experience would be great for any of the above, but is not necessary.) We expect 4 hours of work per day, plus a few minutes of help with cleanup after lunch and dinner, in exchange for room and board, six days per week.

Accommodations: The addition on our house is a spacious room with private bath. It has an air-conditioner. Washer and dryer are available. We have wi-fi (some limits apply; please ask for details). There is a large pavilion in the woods for outdoor yoga.

The food is hearty vegetarian fare, mostly organic, and from the garden when possible. We can accommodate vegans. Those who are into raw foods may be pleased to know that we have a Vita Mix.

The environment here, especially at the nearby Parama Dham Fire Temple, is ideal for meditation, as it is charged daily with the healing energies of Agnihotra and other Vedic fires.

Free classes in Agnihotra, Homa Therapy and mandala drawing are available upon request.

House rules: No meat, fish, poultry, eggs, tobacco, alcohol, drugs or firearms. We expect attendance each sunrise and sunset for Agnihotra, at least for a few minutes.

We welcome people of all races, nationalities, backgrounds, religions and beliefs.

We're always happy to give good references to good helpers!

Madison is 2 hours south of Washington, D.C.and 45 minutes north of Charlottesville. We are 20 minutes away from Shenandoah National Park.

Aside from volunteering, people are welcome all year round to stop by for an hour or two to learn about Agnihotra; please be sure to contact us in advance!

We will again begin hosting in the spring, 2017. Keep us in mind for future travels! Heartfelt thanks to all who have come and volunteered here!
