Situated in central Portugal close to Tabua, we have a Quinta on 3 hectares of land bordering the Mondego river surrounded by woodland containing oaks, cork oaks, and mimosa.

WeŽre originally from England and moved to this area of Portugal in 2009. Were in the process of renovating our house, guesthouse and putting infrastructure into the land, using as many ecological and reclaimed materials and techniques as possible.

Nina is a fantastic cook and a trained hypnotherapist. Toby spends most of his time renovating the houses and looking after the land and dreams of getting back to making sculpture, which he trained in. We have 2 young children, Luca and Beatriz, 5 and 7 years of age, so there may be a bit of hanging out with the kids involved!

ThereŽs loads of work to do on the farm! This year we are primarily looking for practical people with construction skills to help build compost toilets and terraces for the yurts. We also want to build a communal eating area and bar for woofers and guests to use.

During the winter we need help with general maintenance of the 3 hectares which consist of organic vegetable garden, fruit and olive trees and river pastures.

This time of year a lot of time is spent gathering and preparing firewood so chainsaw skills would be helpful.

Sometimes youŽll be working directly with us, sometimes with other helpers and sometimes youŽll have jobs that you can work on yourself.

At present were looking for helpers during the period of 1st October to the end of November. This is initially for a 2 week period but with the option of staying longer. We ask all our helpers to work 30 hrs hrs a week, normally 6 hours a day 5 days a week, this is flexible..

Accommodation for helpers during autumn and winter consists 2 caravans and a camper van. During the warmer months we also have 2 yurts. YouŽre welcome to bring your own tent, tipi or yurt if you wish, and we also have space at the top of the land for campervans.

WeŽre about to start construction of a separate composting toilet and shower block for our guests, at the moment there are facilities for cooking and a bathroom in the guesthouse that our helpers can use.

YouŽll have breakfast and lunch with us and we provide food for your supper and the weekends, as often our helpers prefer to make their own food during their time off. Special diets can be catered for, please let us know in advance.

If you need to send the occaisional email etc wifi internet access is available. The connection is good but as it is via satellite is not fast enough for downloading or posting of large amounts of data. There are internet cafes with faster download speeds in the local villages.

The closest village of Póvoa de Midőes is approx 1.5km walk up the valley and the towns of Tabua and Carregal do Sal are approx 8km from us. There are bus and rail links to both of these towns from Lisbon and Porto, which are the main airports into this region.

You should ensure that you have insurance cover for every medical eventuality, including transportation back home and also to cover lost or damaged property. Please ensure that you inform your insurer you will be helping on a farm.

We ask all helpers to sign an agreement on arrival at the quinta. This outlines our terms. We will email this to you when we confirm your vist. Please ensure you have read this and agree with the terms laid out prior to your arrival at Quinta Mondega.

If resident in the EU we recommend that you apply for a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) which will cover medical treatment whilst in Portugal.
