We grow organic food and fuel for the household and for guests on Bread Matters courses, on a 5 acre small holding. We farm in an agro-forestry system that combines trees with arable crops and we keep a small flock of organic geese, which graze strips of grassland, from May until December. We need help with all the usual growing tasks. Andrew will give full instructions. It is physical work.
We (Andrew and Veronica) live in the farmhouse. We have a small caravan, plus a tent in the summer - with bathroom and fully-equipped kitchen all indoors. There is plenty of very nutritious food. Evening meals are usually shared with us; breakfast and lunch are usually in the barn kitchen, which you are also welcome to use that on your days off.
Our situation is rural and quiet. We are close to Whitmuir Organic Farm, which has a restaurant and shop.
The nearest village, West Linton, is an hour's walk away. There is a bus service to Edinburgh, Peebles etc. Leadburn, but you will need a lift to the bus stop so trips need a bit of planning.

We run a food business (teaching bread making and feeding guests) in the farmhouse and keep high standards of hygiene. There is no smoking in the house or outbuildings and we prefer to have non-smokers. We don't take volunteers to help with breadmaking or catering for courses.
We eat meat and fish ourselves but can cater for vegetarians.
We want helpers in most seasons. Please contact us if you have some experience of organic farming/growing, want to learn more, work hard and enjoy a simple, rich life on the farm for a week or two.
