ANIMAL CARE VOLUNTEER at a sanctuary for rescued farm animals. Farm Animal Rescue is a registered charity that rescues farm animals from abuse, neglect and situations where they are in danger and provides them with a forever home.

Free accommodation and a $200 per month food reimbursement are provided in a shared room in our volunteer bungalow in return for four days per week providing animal care. No experience is necessary, full training will be given.

Opportunities start:

27 July, 2018 (minimum one month)
9 October, 2018 (minimum one month)
2 December, 2018 (minimum one month)
2 January, 2019 (minimum one month)

Volunteers who complete a 3 month rotation benefit from an internship reference. Preference is given to applications for longer stays.

Days are long, from dawn to dusk. Duties include daily cleaning of barns and coops, feeding, health checks, light maintenance work, monitoring herd movements and intensive care of ill, old and baby animals. Extra duties may be required when new rescues, infants or school groups come in. You will work in a team of two.

Animals at the sanctuary are free-range. As a small grass-roots sanctuary we have limited facilities so it is important that you are able to strategize the requirements of the role around the movement of the animals.

Only those with a desire to help animals should apply.

The bungalow features a bathroom with a shower running hot and cold water, living room, kitchen and small back yard. You will share a room with one other person and will share the bungalow with three people. A TV is provided along with a wood fire (if you want to stay warm you will need to chop wood!). Free wifi is provided, along with a swimming pool.

This is a responsible role. You will be provided with specific requirements and care standards and your work will be monitored regularly. We expect you to show care, compassion, empathy and affection towards the animals at all times.

The farm is 1km from the village of Dayboro, which has 6 cafes and a pub. Buses run twice daily on weekdays to the station from which express trains take 30 minutes to the city.

The farm is vegan. Animal products are not permitted to be brought into, or stored in, the volunteer bungalow. The Australian government does not allow us to authorise second year work visas.

You should not apply for this position if you are scared of large animals, don`t like to get dirty or clean poop, or get lonely or homesick.
