This is a new project of a Hare Krishna spiritual community ('Sanctuary of Peace') based in a peaceful countryside next to a small historical town Lesmahagow. Krishna Eco Farm is being developed as a holistic spiritual centre, to help re-establish the sacredness of life. The aim is to promote peace and offer a positive alternative to the dominant consumerist and materialistic world view. This is done principally by following a lifestyle based on the motto of 'simple living, high thinking'. In a long-term we are aiming for self-sufficiency, however at the moment we are making 1st steps.

Being a new project (officially launched in the beginning 2012), the eco-farm provides good opportunities for development and initiative. We invite volunteers to share their skills to develop this project. It includes a walled garden, 3 green houses, a meditation garden, energy saving technologies (windmills, bio-mass boiler, solar panels, etc.) and an ashram with temple for spiritual practices and events. Please note that we don't have any animals just yet. If you prefer fruits over alcohol, fresh air over cigarettes, our famous vegetarian food over meat and would like to experience a detox retreat then this place is for you!

We require volunteers to work 5 hours a day, 6 days a week plus cleaning up after the meals. The range of activities include seed sowing, harvesting, digging, weeding, landscaping, logging, site maintenance, cleaning, building, graphic & web design and even garland making. We also have a rolling calendar of festivals and events and require assistance in pre-event and event organising as well as in take-down.

We invite you to experience an alternative lifestyle that benefits body, mind and soul - simple living, high thinking. It is a unique chance to get out of the rat race, see things from a new perspective and ask yourself questions you might never have asked before. You are welcome to participate in programs here such as Kirtan (Mantra Music), Mantra/Japa Meditation, Musical instrument lessons, Sacred dance, Self-Realization Lectures and Video evenings, festivals, etc. (depending on interest/availability).

All you need to bring besides your working clothes is a positive and dynamic work attitude, genuine interest and respect for spiritual matters and be willing to follow our three golden rules (see below).

What we offer to Volunteers:
-Comfortable, shared, single gender accommodation
-3 meals a day of our famous, nutritionally balanced, vegetarian food (vegan options are available upon request)
-Programmes such as Kirtan (Mantra Music), Mantra/Japa Meditation, Musical instrument lessons, Sacred dance, Self-Realization Lectures and Video evenings, festivals, etc. (depending on interest/availability)
-Day-trips (as applicable)
-Library of educational books and DVDs on Self-realization, etc.
-Opportunities to make new friends and meet people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
-Learning opportunities to best utilise and develop your innate capacities
-Opportunity to utilise any personal skills and talents you may already have
-Being part of a sharing, supportive and welcoming community
-Access to bicycles to explore the local countryside (limited availability)
-Internet Access is available at the local village library (5 minutes walk)

Our spiritual community promotes inner peace and sacredness of life. This requires a peaceful environment. To create and preserve this sacred space and show respect for ourselves and to others we request everyone to follow Three Golden Rules during their stay:
1) To cultivate compassion and refrain from meat, fish and eggs
2) To respect and preserve the sanctity of the community by practicing decent and responsible behaviour, following a modest dress code and refraining from sex life
3) To embrace our healthy lifestyle by refraining from all types of intoxication and stimulants (cigarettes, caffeine drinks, alcohol, illegal drugs, visiting pubs) during the stay (exceptions are an allowance to smoke or take caffeine drinks outside of premises)

Lesmahagow is in South Lanarkshire - an area of ancient history and beautiful rural countryside. It is conveniently situated within a comfortable day's drive to visit the border country of Sir Walter Scott to the South the haunts of Robert Burns to the west eastwards to the splendour of Scotland's capital Edinburgh or north through the city of Glasgow and its treasures, to the beauty, excitement and mystery of Scotland's famous Highlands and Islands. There are some nice walks around, and beautiful places to visit not too far such as Chatelherault Country Park, Strathclyde Country Park, 18th century utopian village and UNESCO World Heritage site, Falls of Clyde: Nature reserve visitor centre, Tinto Hill, etc. For more information about the area and its many walks and points of interest, please visit
