Hi :) We are a busy family -four children, 2 horses,3 dogs and a cat with plans to have goats, chickens etc... We have an interesting property, possibly with knights of the Templar connections(a Templar cross on a chimney breast) near Tomar, Central Portugal. It is a large renovation project consisting of ruined farmhouse, cottage, outbuildings and surrounding olive groves. There are so many interesting features such as a roman well which we use as a plunge pool, and beautiful architectural features that are begging to be brought back to their original grandeur. We are bursting with ideas and concepts and we are at the early stages of our project but each day making good progress. Thanks to our 3 German helpx friends, Benno, Felix and Mauritz :) we now have a fully functioning bread oven - just one job they helped with to make life better- brilliant!
We moved from the U.K, Wales, the children are settling into school and every day presents a new is a massive learning curve and we are loving living this new wild life... and we're enjoying immersing ourselves into this different culture and living simply next to nature.
We have met many new people here in Central Portugal and lots of connections have unfolded...we are taking the rough with the smooth- enjoying the company of friends and neighbours and taking time out to explore and relax which we warmly invite you to do too :)
We are looking for lovely, interesting and motivated people with initiative; preferably with some experience- either building, carpentry, working with cob, traditional skills, garden design, polytunnel, permaculture, self sufficiency, dry toilets, computer skills, Portuguese speakers... at the moment we are renovating a cottage but there are so many different jobs, we are bound to find something to suit you!
Our aim is to be as self sufficient as possible and to live lightly, off grid eventually. We intend to offer glamping holidays from April onwards and so there is much to do!
We invite you to bring your own live in vehicle or we have a caravan with a wood burner. There is a shower, (flushing!) toilet and kitchen for you to use but of course we invite you to eat with us- we do eat meat but can cater for vegetarians (I prefer no meat)
There is wifi internet connection, water and electric on site.
The working day will usually be between 4 and 6 hours and everything is negotiable and flexible.
We regularly take trips to market/ town etc. We enjoy outings to river beaches/ pools / the sea during the hot months.
This is a rural property and is ideally suited to those who enjoy nature and the countryside/ outdoor/ quiet life- although there is rarely a dull moment!
Please feel free to make contact for additional info...thanks for reading ;)Lucy
