::: General Description:::
Welcome to our multi-purpose family style courtyard house! We are a multi-purpose cultural hub organizing everything from free English lessons for local kids, nature awareness events and social impact projects in rural communities.
We are very interested in hosting volunteers for several reasons. Our main reason is to share our culture with you and let you share your culture with our family and guests at our guesthouse. We are in need of a diversity of skills, such as marketing, photography, organization, cooking, languages and more.
We are located just outside the crowded center of Yangshuo. Yangshuo is famous for its dramatic karst landscape and popular West Street. You can explore Yangshuos nightlife, local markets, and nature, which are all easily accessible. We are not in the country-side/mountain side, but we are only 5 a minute walk away from the beautiful scenic view of Li-river.

::: What we expect from you:::

In general, we expect volunteers to stay for a minimum of 7 days. We currently do not have a maximum limit. We ask that you be kind, clean and independent. Independence is very important since I (Simon) am often quite busy and have various customers to take care of.It will be quite awesome if you are an independent thinker and has your own ideas about things around you. It might be a little bit difficult for young volunteers(around 18-19 years old) to do the work.

3 to 4 hours, 5 days a week (2 days off) helping is required.
This can be cooking, playing with the kids, cleaning, translating English on the computer, marketing, making professional photos, help out the receptionist or even helping with our operated tour.
When you arrive we can discuss in more detail about this, both working hours and length of stay are flexible.

::: Who can apply :::
Basically anyone. Solo travelers, couples, families! Feel free to contact us. As we said before, young volunteers (18 -19 years old) might be incomfortable with the job which need a lot of autonomy.

::: What we offer :::
Our guesthouse is about 3 km from Yangshuo town, around 40 mn walking distance. We also have e-bikes available for volunteers to explore.
We offer 3 meals a day. Feel free to use the kitchen and whatever is in it. We cook with a lot of meat and animal fat/lard, so strict vegans might want to cook separately (please notify in advance of any food restrictions).

We have a girls room and a boys room for volunteers. We will try to give couples their own room, if available. There are private bathrooms with hot shower. There is also heating/air conditioning available in each room.

We have free WiFi (which is not always fast or connectable ;P).

There are many ways you can contribute as a volunteer. We invite anyone to contact us with any special skills (photography, website development, painting, etc.) even if they’re not listed!
Generally we need the following help :

1. People who are great at working with children and can teach simple English, play fun games, do art projects and more with the kids. We have new classrooms well equipped, the local kids are eager to learn and to meet foreigners, all we need is to have positive and motivated people to teach them and spend time with them.
(Note that sometimes we do not have a lot of children here, but still feel free to ask. It’d be great if you could play with/teach my son as well.)

2. People who are good at marketing and developing systems. Things are a little bit disorganized here, it would be great to have some help.
Managing our booking sites, helping to optimize our website and ensure we are doing what we can to attract customers. We would like to become a place more attractive for foreigners, so any idea/help will be welcome.

3. People who can help us out with activities like rock climbing, hiking, teaching English, etc.
When we have guests or groups of children, it would be great to have a westerner with experience in some of these areas to help.

We often host/run 1-week camps during Chinese New Year (The first New Moon of the Year) and the summer. We are hoping to host a lot more. This would be the optimal time to come and help with lots of kids. Fair Warning! The camp is hard work. It may at times be chaotic and unorganized. Working with children, and sometimes adults, can be stressful and requires a lot of patience and a laid-back attitude.

::: A little bit about me :::
Hello, Im Simon,the owner of Dahuwai Camp Hostel – Welcome to our family style courtyard guesthouse! I tend to be very busy, very eager to help, I speak English, but I’m also a little unorganized and chaotic. I run the hostel with my wife, Lisa. Our sons Oscar and Austin, my father and two nephews, William and John are also here to help and talk to. William speaks a little English and is eager to learn more, play guitar, take you rock climbing, go the bar and hang out. I will try my best to ensure you have a great time, but please come with an expectation to work independently and enjoy your time off. My idea for this is to be less of a hotel and more of a “cultural hub” anyone who can help me in that dream would be greatly appreciated.

::: What else to know :::
When it’s not busy, it’s a great time to explore Yangshuo and the surrounding areas of China. Sometimes the power goes off unexpectedly, but it usually returns within a few minutes.
My Chinese guests love westerners. They will attempt to talk with you. They will often want to take photos with you; this is a very common thing in modern Chinese culture, so it is good to prepare for it.

If you are interested, just email us, we will reply you as soon as possible.

::: Getting to Yangshuo :::
Getting around China can be a little tricky, especially if you don’t speak Chinese.

You can take a train to Yangshuo train station,and from there a bus to Dahuwai (its the bus for Yangshuo town). It cost 20 Yuan and should take 45 minutes. You have to ask the driver to leave you at Donglin Jiayouzhan (?????). You will then have 80 meter to walk.
Or else you can take a airplane to Guilin Liangjiang international airport and take a bus from the airport to Yangshuo bus station. This will cost you 50yuan and around 1.5 hours.
You can also take a train to Guilin and then a bus (approximately 2 hours) from Guilin to Yangshuo.
Once you get to Yangshuo by bus, I can come and pick you up – just let me know in advance!

Note that traveling during holidays especially Chinese New Year (including several weeks before and after) are hectic travel periods – avoid travelling at this time, and if you do it’s best to finalize plans well in advance.

Our guesthouse is about 3km from Yangshuo town. You can walk, or we have bicycles and bikes available for volunteers. Taxi (20Yuan) is also an option.
