Like a "farmhouse museum" : 61 helpers from 16 countries appeared in 5 years to pay a one-week-visit to this most charming and romantic half timber compound from 1722.
The antik real wood furniture in all rooms will give you the impression to take part in a time voyage.
Almost 300 years old the compound is quietly situated at the calm edge of a hamlet of some 400 souls.
Main building completely restorated in traditional style, however, technically renovated. Modern but romantic kitchen with additional wood stove. Significantly reduced consumption of fossil resources by a bio mass based central heating system (pellets) and a seldomly used car. No TV ;-)

2 cats, co-responsibility for 70 chicken in the neighbourhood

Location: northern Alsace between the river Rhine and the Vosges mountains
18km: German border
55km: Karlsruhe (Germany)
60km: Strasbourg
Train station SOULTZ SOUS FORĘTS 2,5 km (transfer on demand).

Enthusiastic young people are kindly invited for 1 (one) week. If you like to stay longer in the area there are four other hosts near by.
Demand for 4 1/2 hours daily work on every day, normally 8h00 till 12h30. Support is kindly requested in mainly garden work, including cutting bushes and trees, storage of cutted wood for heating purposes. All kind of house cleaning. Painting walls inside and outside. Woodworkers will find a lot of "inspiration". In addition, but not as a must, skillful hands are most welcome for the refurbishment of the houses facades in particular renovation of the beams of the facade by an 8 kg brushing machine (strong arms requested!). Renovation work in the barn.

Your privacy is fully granted in the main building in a romantic, comfortably equipped and proper guest room with twin beds. WIFI access. You are kindly requested to make use of your electronic equipment exclusively in your private room.

Occasionally evenings in front of a huge open fire place. Piano, tenor saxophone, flutes C and F and harmonica available. Musicians most welcome.

Helpers are invited to take over the kitchen, as your host is curious to learn about foreign cultures. Vegans and Vegetarians are most welcome, however, not a must.

In your leisure time you are invited to profit from Roger`s well equipped craft shop for a lot of kinds of woodwork. If you are not yet experienced, Roger will teach you patiently in almost every technique related with wood, carving techniques included. You will discover yourself being an artist ! Several helpers crafted Roger`s invention, a simplified version of the strategy game HALMA in wood technique from scratch although they had no skills in woodworking before (to take away).

For leisure trips there are 5 bicycles available (of which 3 are recumbents) for the exploration of the romantic villages in the vicinity, with the overwhelming charme of their typical half timbered houses (guided tours on demand).

Your are kindly requested to present your medical insurance valid for France at the latest at your arrival.
