I am the director of a Christian charity. We have a property in the Bay of Islands, right next to a beach rated one of the top 10 in Northland. In fact, there is a beach on both sides of the property. Search for Oke Bay on google earth and you'll see what I mean. Accommodation is being offering just down the road for $1000 per night. The fishing, diving and swimming here at Oke Bay is incredible. I reckon this is classic New Zealand at it's best! Dolphins regularly visit the Bay, and the occasional whale.

There is an historic building on the land (6 bedrooms, right on the waters edge) which we have started to renovate.

The house has mains pressure hot and cold water, chemical toilet and long drop, two fridges, stove, shower, wireless internet, phone etc.

Being a charity, all the work is being carried out by volunteers out of the goodness of their heart.

At the moment we are focusing on the outside, renewing the weather boards and framing (where necessary). Recently a team of people completely stripped down all the window sashes, reconditioning them all. They are now all repainted and ready to install. Some of the window frames need to be stripped down and repainted.

Right now, we are looking for a carpenter/joiner and someone who loves painting.

I will cover the cost of the internet and phone each month, which includes unlimited national phone calls. You'd need to be able to bring tools as the tools here are minimal. If you could cover the cost of power each month, that would be great but we could negotiate this. The cost of power would be about $25 per week. I have been catching fish to save money buying meat.

You'd have to provide your own food and do your own cooking. Basically, you'd have the place to yourself as I have to travel a lot as part of my job.

I am thinking this position would best suit a couple, but if you are single, that would be OK as we could invite other helpers to come and cook and support you in the work you are doing. As I said, we also need a painter so if you are the carpenter/joiner, we'd invite another helper to do the painting.

The absolute ideal would be to have three people here: a carpenter/joiner, a cook, and a painter. While the painter and carpenter are working, the cook would be preparing their meals.

Whoever comes, I want you to do a fine job, have fun, make friends, and take lots of time out to enjoy the location. By the way, this house is located at the beginning of the Cape Brett walking track, which is rated one of the top 100 walks in the world.

It would be great if you could get a vision for what we are trying to do and join in with the adventure. To learn more about the vision we have for this property, just write me an email.

The plan is to eventually turn the existing building into a boutique accommodation / back packers / cafe which would fund our charity work in the cities and wherever the need is. If you would like to help, and you take pride in doing a high standard of work, we need you! I know you'll love the location!

An immediate start would be ideal.
