This is 31 acres of steep dry sclerophyll and vine forest surrounded by National Park and a 15 minute drive from the heart of Maleny.

We are planting some planting in May/June 2014 and looking for some helpers in particular for then.

We are in the process of regenerating the property, to provide a koala refuge and expand the vine forest (currently an endangered eco-system in SEQ). Wildlife that we have observed on the property include, koalas, wallabies, echidnas, bandicoots, snakes and goannas as well as many beautiful birds.

This place features three major rocky outcrops, expansive views of the Obi Valley and evidence of aboriginal inhabitation. There is plenty to explore on the property, wandering down old logging trails, following wallaby tracks into the scrub or just free-ranging around discovering interesting plants, insects and animals. There is a feeling of serenity with no neighbours in sight and we live “off the grid” providing all of our own power (solar) and water. However we do have landline and high speed internet.
Russell and Rebecca are both successful and established artists with a small family. Russell is a sculptor and runs fully equipped metal workshop with the latest technology including cnc machines and 3d printers. He is able to run all of this including welders and lathes off his solar power system. Rebecca is a contemporary jeweller and makes unusual and experimental jewellery using environmental themes and unconventional materials and exhibits widely. We also host artists in residence.
There are 2 accommodation options. One is in a separate house on the property where you may be sharing with an artist in residence. Another is in our spare room with its own en suite. Independent travellers will be best suited to the separate house where they can prepare their own meals. Otherwise you will be eating with the family.
Work that you could do would be in 3 categories and we'd require 4 hrs for accommodation and board or 2hrs for board only : Landcare and gardening - weeding and planting, mowing, whippersnipping, vegegardening. We currently have several hundred plants to go into the ground. Building/renovating - we usually have building projects around the property. Art - there may be opportunities to assist in the sculpture or jewellery studios.
Transport is via train to Landsborough and we can pick you up from there. There are some buses to Maleny with Hinterland Connect but they are possibly going to be discontinued. As we are 15 minutes out of town we travel to Maleny Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays so there are lifts available.
