*** We have vacancy from 18 March ***
Historic farm homestead, circa 1840 built by convicts, currently a working beef property situated 48 km east of Hobart. In days gone by this residence was maintained by maids, servants and convicts. The homestead is on 8 hectares with old stables and grand old established English style trees, while the remaining beef grazing property is a few kilometers away. Included on the property is a 300ML dam suitable for trout fly fishing.
We are a middle aged couple with a 18 year old son and looking for assistance with the many tasks associated with maintaining this property. We have 1 small dog, 4 cats, 3 turkeys and a number of chickens. We graze around 70 beef cattle and calves using time controlled grazing.
We try to be self sufficient and have a home orchard and vegetable garden and follow sustainable agricultural principles including crop rotation & companion planting. Tasks required will be seasonal according to the garden and farming activities ranging from propagation of seeds and plants, planting out, weeding, mowing, pruning, spraying, house duties, fruit & veggie picking in season, preserving and processing of harvested produce, cooking and preserve making, to name just a few. Other tasks will vary depending on the maintenance projects underway, the season for gardening, and what's happening on the farm. No experience necessary just a willingness to learn and be prepared to have a go, and experience a rural family life.
Accommodation will be own room with a DOUBLE bed only and shared amenities including meals. Assistance in cooking and cleaning are invited. We are non smokers and would prefer the same. Mobile Phone network available is with TELSTRA. Being in the country our internet connection can be slow and unpredictable and is not suitable for free usage. We were encouraged to become a host from a european helpX helper who enjoyed the type of work we offer, and the opportunity to learn more about sustainable rural living & christian living.
