Hi. Our family are looking for a person who loves children, healthy food and home life to join our family to assist us during school holidays. We are a homely family with three kids aged 13 yrs, 11 yrs and 5 years. School holidays times are mid April for 2-3 weeks, early July for 3 weeks, late September/early October for 2-3 weeks, December for 3 weeks and January for 3 weeks. Our one-acre property is 15 minutes' drive from the centre of Albany and its coastal beaches, and only meters from scenic Oyster Harbour and Oyster Lake. Albany is 400km from Perth via Albany Highway. TransWA have a regular bus route from Perth (East Perth terminal) to the centre of Albany. We are able to meet our guests at the bus station.

Enquiries are welcome for 2017 and 2018 from either singles or couples (friends) traveling together. Please note, we do not have smoking or alcohol on our property.

We usually have two helpx guests staying with us. They share a comfortable caravan which sits next to our home for sleeping, but also have full access to our home during the day. One guest has an au pair position, looking after our 5 yo daughter, preparing the main meals and house cleaning. Our other guest helps with housecleaning, gardening/maintenance & occasional childcare. During school holidays our guests will also provide some general supervision to our two older boys aged 13 and 11, so a real love and compassion for children is essential. Hours of work each day will vary, but will average 4 hours per day for each day of the week ie approx 28 hours per week. In exchange we offer accommodation, main meals, an Aussie home experience and lots of English language practice. We enjoy showing our guests the local sites in Albany and love to support people to develop their english, but also expect a genuine work ethic and attention to detail to the tasks requested.

Our guests are welcome to use our bicycles to tour the local beaches and town. Our kayak is a great way to explore Oyster Harbour and the local bird life. Learn more about Albany in the website amazingalbany

We are always keen to learn about other cultures as well as improve our French and Japanese language skills.

WIFI: We do have a prepaid wifi modem that you could put credit on and use while you are staying with us. It is through the company Telstra and is around $30 AUD for 3Gb of data to be used within 30 days. This is a typical pre-paid scenario for the companies we have available - Telstra or Optus. In Albany, both Telstra and Optus carriers are available, but if you are looking at getting a phone or wifi SIM card for your travels around Australia, generally Telstra has the better coverage, but will be a bit more expensive to use. In the north of Western Australia there is no Optus coverage available, only Telstra. Certainly do not get Vodaphone as there is not Vodaphone service in Albany.

Our guests usually stay between 3-6 weeks, with arrivals scheduled for late Friday pm or Saturdays so that you can meet our family before the working week begins. There is a company called TransWA that operates daily to Albany from Perth. The bus arrives at the Visitor Centre at Proudlove Parade, Albany and takes about 6 hours from Perth (via Williams). It can be longer if you go via Bunbury or Katanning. Bookings can be made on 1300 622 205 (in Australia) or +618 93262600 (from overseas) or via their website at If you are arriving from Perth, we recommend that you catch the bus that leaves from the East Perth Terminal as it offers a shorter route.

Please feel free to call us or email us if you have any questions - we'd love to hear from you.

The photo's below show the beautiful Oyster Harbour which is only a 5-min walk from our house. Our two budding 'civil engineers' love to play in the back yard (soccer/basketball/trampoline) and sand-pit, and especially enjoy the company of our HelpX guests!
