are you heading to the tongariro crossing? we live a 30 minute drive from the start of the crossing... have some time to kill before your whanganui river journey? hello travelers! survivor kakahi is a little unconventional and may not suit everyone! we do not supply 5 star accommodation, BUT! we do supply respect, great conversation and lots of laughs, food is plentiful and delicious, and a cold beer at the end of a good day is highly likely.

we enjoy meeting new people and want to host people who have life/travel experience and a degree of maturity, prefer 30 and over. we have two young children, and we value our family time, but there are plenty of opportunities to practice english, converse and relax. we are both energetic and like to be around people with high energy levels and lots of enthusiasm.

ok, so if you are still interested, read on!

ideally we are looking for a single handy person with their own camper van. having said that, we are open to other possibilities! priority will also be given to anyone who can build things, anyone who is an electrician, or a plumber!! those that are cycling are welcome also, we do have the means to accommodate you.

we have lots of jobs that need to be done, none of them particularly wild and exciting, mainly tidying up/breaking in our new plot of land....paint preparation and painting the interior of our house, building timber racks, building a chicken coup....weeding!..moving timber and various other items....child minding on occasion. if you are handy with a hammer, a garden fork, or a paint brush, are a diesel mechanic, and have the ability to work unsupervised, we would love to hear from you!

we are a well traveled 50`s couple who are some what alternative. our 2 grandchildren live with us, 2 and 7 years. we also have a lovely Labrador. we have purchased a larger house just down the road and would like some help moving a large amount of timber, and to prepare the new house for living in.

if you think you might be up for the task, be prepared to be entertained and to enjoy yourself. mike and i like to have fun and like to hang out with happy people who don`t scare easily!

we live in a small valley 20 minutes south of taumarunui, in the heart of the central king country. all of the usual activities associated with this area are within easy reach. the legendary, world famous kakahi glow worm tour is mike`s specialty!

we offer basic facilities and would prefer to host someone with their own camper. we have a toilet block at our new house, with a toilet, wash basin and shower -
cold water only at the of those jobs that need to be done! we have an outdoor bath, and we will provide the wood for you to light the fire under it to heat the water. we may open up our guest house for you to use the shower if there are no paying guests. there is a great waterhole for swims just a couple of minutes walk from the house, and a beautiful cold river 2k away.

we anticipate that you would be asked to work for around 4 - 5 hours per day. if we get on, we are happy for you to stay on for a couple of days so you have some time to look around the district. mike loves to kayak and is often looking for a willing experienced partner!

mike is a wonderful cook, we do eat a lot of meat so if you are a vegetarian this may not be for you, although we do have lots of rice :)

if you have any of the above mentioned skills or feel that a meeting would be mutually beneficial please drop us a line! regards, maxine and mike
