Hi everyone,

I am a native of the island, and have dedicated 13 years of my life to building the only non profit cat sanctuary in Belize, which rescues abused, abandoned and unwanted cats and gives them a second chance at a happy, healthy life. We have moved into the 2nd phase of our journey helping cats as we have become a Hospice cat sanctuary. As the cats age many have become ill and are living the last days of their live here, our haven for kitties.

I also run a non-traditional hostel on the same property as the Sanctuary, and all the proceeds goes toward taking care of the animals & conducting large & small scale spay and neuter clinics throughout Belize & Mexico, many in remote areas where there is no access to vet care to control animal population in a humane way and thus, control the suffering of so many unwanted animals.

We are located on a beach front property on the Lee Side (West) part of the island. We have our own private double deck dock, which is great for lounging, reading a book, or getting a tan. We have an endless amount of coconuts in our trees that you're welcome to and because of our location, we get to watch spectacular sunsets every night.

We are looking for people who are low maintenance so to speak (as accommodations are very rustic) have positive attitudes, are self-motivated, have initiative, love challenges, aren't allergic to cats :) are very responsible ( as we are a very busy team and don't have time to baby sit anyone) dependable, & who really want to give back. We are a non-smoking hostel looking for non-smoking volunteers; smoking is only allowed outside the property. We appreciate volunteers who set the example to other volunteers & customers & who are friendly & welcoming to our customers as the income they bring in allow us to be able to host volunteers. People who are looking for a quiet laid back lifestyle, love nature, like to meditate will do better here, party seekers looking for action and constantly needing to be around crowds will not be happy here.

Although this island is very beautiful it has its downside and we think you should be aware of all this before deciding to volunteer, no sugar coating here. The temperature can be very hot (although we provide fans for sleeping only), there are mosquitoes and sand flies and if you are sensitive to bugs you may not be comfortable as sleeping conditions are rustic. We provide bunk beds & double beds for couples (upon availability) but do not have special sleeping arrangements for couples other than that. The island is very laid back, not much to do; however, if you love the sea there is diving, snorkeling, surf boarding, kayaking, kite diving & things of that nature, as I mentioned not much to do if you are looking for action.

Hi Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in helping our nonprofit animal rescue and hostel. We appreciate our volunteers, as they help make this place possible to save animal lives. We have rescued, and adopted out hundreds of animals that would have been inhumanly killed. When you apply, please keep in mind, that if we bring you on as a volunteer, you are committing to help make this place possible. We understand that life happens, but please try your best to apply for the amount of time that you can commit to stay. Training takes time, and resources to house volunteers is expensive on the island, so we would love to have you stay for the whole time that you commit. Please copy the below application, and include it in your email to us so that we can get to know you better.

What position are you applying to?

How long are you able to commit?

What will be your arrival & departure date?

What brings you to Belize?

Is this your first visit to the tropics?

Have you volunteered before? If so, what was your favorite part?

What attracted you to our cause?

Do you have any special skills you would like to share with us?

Any additional information you would like to share?
