TEMPORARILY FULL. DUE TO COVID19 WE ARE CLOSING THE DOORS FOR A WHILE TO MAKE SPACE FOR FRIENDS AND FAMILY. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR TRAVELS AND STAY SAFE!!!

Want a real farming challenge? Like Beef?

Looking for 2 positions
-Lots of opportunity to learn including cattle and mechanical work through to horticulture, soil renovation and improvement, shooting, hunting, brewing beer, stilling gin/rum, making cheese/yoghurt/sauerkraut, milking cows, stuff like that.

Woodspring is a cattle farm in Inglewood QLD owned and run by Ben and Sarah Eisel. We primarily fatten cattle and feed our pigs/poultry/pony by sprouting barley grass in a large cool room. We do this to make some awesome beef that we sell direct to families all over southern queensland. We have earned a reputation for producing some of the best beef in the region. We eat it at home too so if you`re a beef lover you can`t go past it!

Position 1: Assistant to back up the lead farmhand. Immediate start. Role includes driving a manual vehicle and helping in the sprouting shed. No visa sign off but plenty of fun and new experiences.

Position 2: Senior helpxer- farmhand. This role is a challenging role with lots of responsibility. This must be someone with their head on their shoulders and a passion for agriculture. Needs lots of training and must be willing to stick around for a while.

4 hrs minimum a day including food and board etc (we give our helpers the same lifestyle we have - but when we are busy it means more work).

We are working to restore (and then vastly improve beyond nature!) the soils of this long-farmed land by using rock mineral fertilisers with bacteria and fungus as well as mulching pastures extensively and planting using zero-till single-disc techniques. We hope to one day be able to be completely self-sufficient and grow all our own barley and steers for the feeding program. At the moment we are severely drought affected (like most of the state).

We are not certified organic but we only use household cleaning products in the sprouting shed and no poisons or chemical fertilisers on the property. We use peroxide and sometimes chlorine bleach so you will need work clothes as they will get dirty/wrecked (we can provide work clothes and boots).

Help us by harvesting the barley grass and feeding it to the cattle. Check on the cows every day. Make up the BnB if we have guests staying in the cabin. Work in the veggie patch, feeding the pigs, dogs, chickens and ducks, talking to and patting the dairy cows, and helping out around the house. Ben works another job from home and doesn`t get to do as much farm work as he likes and Sarah spends most of her time looking after Bridget (5 years), the 3 year old twins Elizabeth and Lucinda and baby Arthur (9 months) . She will occasionally ask you to read or do puzzles with Bridget when the nanny goes home so she can get the twins to sleep. Otherwise you can generally schedule the farm work and free time whenever it suits you. We provide full board in our house and often use of a car.

You will be living with the whole family (including all the backpackers!) in a private bedroom of our house, with shared bathroom, living area and study with computer and unlimited wifi provided.

Drinkers and smokers no problem (but you are buying your own fags and booze if you don`t drink what we make here on farm). Vegetarians can be accommodated but your sanity questioned.

For recreation, we have a heated swimming pool, motorbikes, pool table, heaps of movies, karaoke system, some gaming and a spare computer. Usually we can provide shooting lessons (and maybe some hunting of feral pests). We`re about 10km from Inglewood where there`s a few pubs, supermarkets, post office, service station and other shops. Inglewood has a squash court, tennis courts, gym, football field, golf course and swimming pool. We`re only a short drive from Coolmunda dam so it may be possible to organise some leisure activities there (skiing or swimming).
