We are a horse trekking and riding school centre catering for tourists and locals. We have 50 horses and ponies and operate horse treks on a daily basis from half hour to half day, as well as offering pony rides for small children (from 2 years and up). Located only 15mins drive from central Christchurch getting to city attractions is easy. A 15min walk gets you to the nearest bus stop for the city or Rangiora. The Waimakariri River is well known for Jet boating fishing kayaking and a great place for picnics and swimming in the warmer weather. When conditions are right we can usually get to swim with the horses!
Erika and Stan started the business in 2000 and helpers will assist with daily feeding, mucking out, grooming, saddling, pony rides and treks depending on experience and ability. We welcome experienced horse people and those passionate about horses. Over the years we have welcomed people from England, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, America, Japan,Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, and Canada. We love to share ideas, opinions and foods from different cultures. We share meals together (everyone tells us are amazing!) and are happy to assist with your English as well as offer local information on places to go and things to see. You will stay in our house with us and may have to share a room with other helpers. You are welcome to ride in your free time and we are happy to provide lessons as part of your stay. We do give preference to those with experience with horses as working with these beautiful animals is a skill that takes time to learn. We also like people who can show some initiative, rather than waiting to be told what to do. Consequently, we prefer people who can offer at least 4 weeks or more at one time. If you are not an experienced horse person and have the time we can train you and teach you to ride. Most of our helpers work 5 days and have 2 days off, but we are flexible as we know you are in NZ to travel as well.
You need to be a good people person with a love of horses and animals with an enthusiastic attitude.
We have had a hot and a busy Summer, and although things get less hectic in the Winter there is always things to do when you have horses... Fortunately, we do get some fantastic days in the Winter with clear blue skies - great for riding.
