Energetic Peer Mentors aged 18-30 needed
6 or 9 Month Placements available from October 2018

Who Are We?
Cyrenians Communities provide 16 – 30 year olds who are homeless with a safe, secure and fun place to live. We have two residential communities; one within the beautiful city of Edinburgh and the other a working farm just outside of the city.

What Will You Do?
Be a member of our community! Live alongside other young people and create a fun, secure and stimulating space. This will help young people develop skills and confidence to move forward in life. By creating positive experiences you will help residents move from negative experiences of the past to a positive future.

Activities include: cooking and shopping with community members; decorating; playing games; accompanying young people to meetings with doctors, social workers or other professionals; providing mature/calm advice; being sympathetic to a resident in crisis; and supporting community members to take part in activities or placements. At the farm, you will also be involved with caring for our chickens and encouraging residents to participate in opportunities on the farm.

This is a six or a nine month placement and you’ll be fully involved in community life during days, evenings and weekends. You’ll have at least 2.5 days free each week to spend however (and wherever!) you like. In addition to this we provide holidays.

Who Are You?
We are looking for fun, enthusiastic, creative young people – aged 18 to 30 – to be role models to our residents. You can connect with challenging young people but keep personal boundaries. You are patient, tolerant, have independent living skills, open minded, calm and emotionally strong. As a team player you will work with your fellow volunteers, but also able to use your initiative.

A good level of written and verbal English is required.

What will you get from us?

Accommodation, food, some travel costs, weekly pocket money, holiday money grant, leaving grant and a written reference. Daily support from our staff is provided and there are monthly workshops on topics relevant to the Communities such as addictions, mental health, conflict resolution etc.

We require applicants to complete an application form, references, interview and gain a police disclosure check.
