Lakeside Arenosa (Panama Canal Eco Bed & Breakfast), in the friendly fishing village of La Arenosa which is a one hour drive from Panama City and the Pacific beach resort towns of Gorgona and Coronado. Our 2 acre property has 1000 of water front in a serene setting, on a private swimming bay on one of the largest fresh water man made lakes in the world. La Arenosa is a primary departure point for fishing charters (some of the world's best freshwater fishing, including Peacock Bass, Tarpon, Oscars, Snook and Talapia).
Lakeside Arenosa is owned and operated by a Panamanian non-profit organization, wth all profits going towards local children's sports activities as well as life learning skills and computers.
Currently, we are working on developing the air bnb style accomodation and fishing lodge concept. There is a lot that needs to be done including ongoing tasks such as maintaining the property, caring for the dogs, painting, gardening, planting and harvesting crops from our garden, and some light construction. The immediate requirement for the month of January would involve a lot of gardening and landscape work and design.
The skills from volunteers that matter the most to us would be:
-Gardening, landscaping and landscape design.
-Construction, electrical, welding, plumbing.
-Resort marketing and management.
-General maintenance and guest services.
-Physical wellness teachers, including yoga,
weight and exercise, kayaking and other water
-ability to teach Spanish.
-design, painting and decorating.
We are looking for self-motivated volunteers, ready to work and contribute to our operation. We ask 25 hours per week and a one week minimum with the option of possibly staying much longer. We are leaving Panama on Feb 02 for 3 weeks and our hope is there can be a volunteer(s) here during our absence . There is a permanent caretaker (and family)on the property and his duty is primarily construction. We are looking for volunteers that can possibly stay long term. Our return date to Canada will be May 02.
In return for a work week of 25 hours, and for a very small fee of $2.00 per day, we supply three well-balanced and filling meals per day, seven days a week as well as a nice place to stay. The management are not vegetarians and practice a healthy diet...though we happly switch to vegan or vegetarion when appropriate.
*****note of the food fee******
We would love to eat food that only comes from our land but it is impossible. We had to implement a nominal fee for the food because food prices in Panama have been increasing steadily. We only have one local restaurant in the area and it serves typical Panamanian, fried, non vegetarian food and it's expensive. We are currently not able to allow volunteers to cook each of their own foods. We do not have the refrigerator space, nor the cooking space for this. We also do not believe that a diet of rice and beans is very healthy. The fee allows us to purchase decent quality of fruits and veggies that we can't grow, brown instead of white rice, decent cooking oils etc.
The accommodation will be a private room with your own bathroom. The bedding is a double bunk bed on the bottom and a single on the top.
This 2 acre property has a significant incline from the house to the lake so it is not very handicapped friendly
We also offer use of the property’s amenities, such as kayaks, the lake (nice swimming and great fishing), and multiple chill spots.
We look forward to hearing from you and truly want to share this adventure with you.
